REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

happy 1st day of August. It is the high days of summertime.

We are under an air quality alert due to smoke from fires in Canada.,needless to say, the sky is very hazy.

I ended up in the er yesterday..I have been having a lot of pain from my shoulder to shoulder actoss my chest, which wakes me up at night. Friday night was bad so on the way home, I called my cardiologists triage line and they sent me to the er.  My heart is fine..ipthe pain is related to my Ra. I was only i. The er for 2 hours, which was pretty fast.

That is enough excitement for me yikes.

I plan on having a much calmer week.

Hope your Sunday goes well.🎈🎈

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

Good Afternoon/Evening!  So glad your heart is okay, Barbara.  I was a little concerned when we didn't hear from you yesterday, but had no idea you were in the ER.  RA is such a difficult disease.  Certainly hope you have a calmer week.

I read on the internet about the smoke in MN.  I think that smoke and air quality issues are a problem in several parts of the country.  One of my friends is traveling in Washington State, and said that she and her friend were not planning to go out if the air quality (due to smoke) didn't improve.  Our weather is good in comparison.  Hot, but just normal hot for Arizona in the summer.  They are saying no rain for the next few days.

Hope things are okay there Claudia.  Also hope the new cat tool worked.

Church was pretty good today, but they said we couldn't sing, (just hum) due to the Delta COVID virus.  Some sort of regional directive.  We are wearing masks, so I thought maybe they were overreacting, but....  The lady who normally sits next (with spacing) to me said that their area wasn't nearly as hard hit as mine (they live south of me near where the senior lunch program is), and they made it to church last week.  I asked, and she said that attendance was down.

After church, I went to the gym.  I'm getting stronger, but still can feel some of my muscles.

I'm doing a little cooking and plan to do some cleaning and ironing later.  Not very exciting, but....

Hope both of you and your husbands have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

You don't need anymore excitement, Barbara.  I hope the pain is better. At least you weren't in the er too long. I hope you van stay indoors and not have to deal with the smoky air.

Linda, I'm glad you made it to church and the gym. At least it's not overly hot just "normal" hot. Lol.

Today it was low 70's here and we had rain early afternoon.

I got up to the bathroom about 6:30 this morning and made my way there without my glasses. As always I was escorted by a couple cats. Fitz (one of Miss Boots kittens) is a sizeable 18 pounds and likes to chew plastic. He is the reason we opted for shower doors vs. shower curtain. I line the bathroom garbage can with a plastic grocery bag. What did Fitz do? He somehow stuck his head through one of the handles then took off towards the stair landing with the graniteware can following him. He lost the can at the landing after sc

aring his brother Pippin then raced down the hall with the white plastic bag around his middle. I caught up with him in the bedroom and freed him. All this without my glasses. No more plastic bag liners with handles. Of course the garbage flew out of the plastic bag as he ran. Most of it fur as I had brushed several of the cats before bed. What a start to the day. I went back to bed for an hour.

The new dematting brush worked very well on Spookit.

R only has 3-4 spices for his smoking meat. Other spices he got out for meals ended up jumbled with the smoker spices on the counter and there were duplicates.  He is not good at putting things away. Now they're organized and we can see what's there.

Have a nice calm evening and a good night's sleep.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

Good afternoon..m turned off the ac and there is a nice breeze. It remains pretty hazy from the fires in Canada.

V and I are doing ACT prep with Syd. I just finished another grammar session and v is now doing math with her. She is a good student and she trusts us to teach her.

My infusion has kicked in so I am feeling better.

Linda..Glad you enjoyed church. I do find the humming strange..I understood that if one is masked and socially distanced singing is ok. Humming actually expels more air believe it or not. I believe our church allows masked singing. What are you cooking these days. I made a vegetarian dish for m and me .tomatoes, onions and zucchini sautéed in olive oil.it is a meal...i season it according to taste.

I am getting hesitant about going out to large group gatherings. I think I told you that my rheumatologist is not sure about how much immunity I really have.

Claudia..yikes about the garbage can..I can just picture it.Good that you got the spices organized.

Enjoy your day.🌻🌻

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

What a mess with the garbage bag, Claudia.   Not a good way to start the day.  I need my glasses and usually regret trying to do anything without them.  Glad you got those spices organized.  I know that I need to make sure what I have and where I put them since I have so many.

Glad your infusion is kicking in and the weather is better, Barbara.  Good that you and V can help Syd with ACT preparation.  I didn't hum at church since it just didn't seem right, but I am surprised that it is not as safe as singing when you wear a mask.

I often make the dish you prepared for you and M, Barbara.  My usual practice is to saute/stir fry with a ltitle olive oil a fair-sized batch of that which I use in various dishes (like chili) or as a side dish.  I usually add some bell/small peppers (different colors), ground chia seeds, turmeric, black pepper, hot pepper, fresh basil, etc.

I am cooking things like brown rice, quinoa, beets, etc. in the Insta Pot  I've gotten pretty good at separating the grains into meal-sized portions -- keep some in the refrigerator and others in the freezer.  Since I like beets and they are good for you, I cook them in the Insta Pot and add a few as one of my "sides".  My latest purchase was Farro, but I haven't eaten it yet since I was using up some rice.

There is an easy way to fix tofu (bake in the oven), and I can get four meals or so out of one package.  Usually have it over a grain plus the vegetable mixture, beets on the side, broccoli, etc.  I am fond of Thai peanut sauce (purchased) as well.   The other things I have made recently are Dal (Indian dish) and vegetarian chili.  I have tried several other vegan dishes, but haven't found many that I really like.

It is hot here and no chance of rain.  My chair yoga class went well since my internet didn't go out.  DD has decided to become a special type of notary (one that would go to real estate closings, etc.), and has already gotten started on the classes and application process.  She seems pretty excited about it, and I hope it works out for her.

Hope both of you and your husbands have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Barbara, I'm glad you are feeling better thanks to the infusion. I didn't know that about humming vs. singing. Sydnie is very fortunate that you and V can help her prepare for the ACT.

I hope the notary training works out for your DD, Linda. Glad your internet did not go out during your chair yoga.

70's here with little to no humidity. Fitz has not caused any more excitement.

A quiet day here for the most part. Some time ago R was trying to open a lid and having trouble. Somehow he hit himself in the mouth and knocked out an upper tooth. He called the VA dental and they scheduled him for the 26th. Today he said he had a tooth ache. I reminded him that they told him to call if he started having pain but of course he was too stubborn to call.

Have a good evening.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

Good afternoon..the day kind of hot away from me. I thought I had a lunch date but I showed up and she did not because she had it on her calendar for tomorrow..lol. So tomorrow, it shall be. Lol

The Prius was leaking something so v took it in. On the way back I drove by our old house and ended up talking to former neighbors for a while. It was fun to catch up.

The baby shower isSmiley Frustratedeptember 12 so I was calculating if I can get the blanket done. in order to do that, I need to knit about 8-10 rows a day. We shall se..

Linda..what you cook sounds good except, I neither like beets, nor tofu. Lol. I had heard that the heat is returning across the country...it has been a very warm summer.

I do not expect it to be cooler when we return in the fall

,

Claudia..how could r knock out a tooth opening a can...all I can say is yikes.Good that you had no more cat/ garbage incidents.

Have a great evening.q⭐️⭐️

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Sure hope R isn't in pain, Claudia.  He certainly finds innovative ways to hurt himself.  Glad you didn't have any incidents with garbage yesterday.  Hope you are feeling well today and the weather is good.

Glad you were able to visit with your old neighbors, Barbara.  Hope the Prius repair isn't costly.  When I first read your post, I thought you were saying you would need to knit for 8 - 10 hours a day.  Good that I re-read it.  Hope you are able to finish it before the shower.  If not, I'm sure she will be thrilled that you are working on such a special gift.  Shame your wires were crossed about lunch today.  I never really enjoyed tofu that much, but I have come to use it sort of the way I used chicken breast -- very versatile protein source.  So, instead a pound of chicken breast, I use a package of tofu.  But, it is an acquired taste to be sure.

Forgot to mention my favorite food -- pasta.  I had been trying some special pasta -- chickpea and red lentil, which I don't like as much as whole wheat or regular white pasta.  The other varieties have much more protein, etc., but if I don't like the taste, I don't eat much of them.

I imagine it wouldn't help with RA, but a lot of people recommend taking turmeric and black pepper to help with osteoarthritis.  You can take supplements, but also can add it to things like soups and casseroles.  Not sure if it is helping, but I figure why not.

DD already finished and passed the test to be a regular notary.  Hopefully, she will be sworn in by a clerk of the court as soon as next week.  That is a requirement before she can take the test to become a "signing" notary (I think that is the name).  The State (I think) has to do a criminal background check and check her references, but apparently Maryland does so quickly.  If everything goes smoothly, she could be ready to work next month sometime.

DH's DD and family have made it to Barcelona -- still seem to be having a lot of fun.

Bev had an appointment with another doctor who wants her to have a PET scan.  Depending on the results, the doctor might recommend some radiation treatments.  She is still feeling good.

Hope both of you and your husbands have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of August 1

If anyone could knock out a tooth, R could. It was a jar he tried to twist open. I guess his grip slipped and his hand flew back and hit his mouth. Smh.

Another pleasant day here. Recycling is out at the curb for tomorrow and the plants are watered. I briefly spoke with my neighbor across the street. They put in a ramp off the back porch and her daughter took her out in her wheelchair. For her birthday they took her to visit her husband at the nursing home. About a 40 minute drive. Sadly he is mostly nonverbal now.

We both agreed, one minute we're 30, next thing we know 70 hits.

I'm not a fan of tofu. Tried it years ago when my sister and her partner came up for a holiday and did not like the tofu "turkey".

Recently I tried turmeric and black pepper capsules. The last time I took one I ended up with an awful taste in my mouth and my throat burning. It may be I didn't swallow it fast enough. It did seem to help though.

Good for your DD,  Linda. Hopefully everything moves along quickly. I'm glad your DH's daughter and family are enjoying their travels. I hope your friend, Bev continues to feel well.

The blanket will be a very special gift, Barbara. I hope the Prius repair wasn't pricey. Its nice you could chat with your former neighbors.

We planned to stop at a local museum today but R was too tired. Maybe Friday when they're next open.

Posting this now as  my Kindle switched sites and I had to go in and reload it. It also changed font sizes.
