Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

Sorry your wrist is hurting, Barbara. I hope a cortisone shot helps. After mowing yesterday my darn shoulder woke me up partway through the night. A Tylenol arthritis tablet got me through the rest of the night.

I picked up milk this afternoon. They are only stocking the gallon size of raw milk which is too much for us so I've been picking up vitamin D. I also found yeast for the first time in weeks and picked up a packet of 3. Bread is limited in supply along with butter.

We had country style ribs in the crock pot tonight. The recycling is out for pick up tomorrow. I hope it doesn't get windy overnight.

Hopefully you can get an extension on the plane ticket, Linda. I bet your DD was not pleased to find she had a non working replacement phone.

When R took the pressure cooker apart and couldn't get it back together he ordered a new one which I didn't think we really needed. The new one arrived today when he got the bright idea of looking up YouTube tutorials and fixed the one he took apart. Now we have 2 of these to store since he doesn't want to return it. I told him he could find space in his work room.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

Sorry your wrist is hurting, Barbara.  Hope it improves or a cortisone shot helps.  Good for Pepper holding still.  It was lovely for my walk, and I did walk for a shorter time today -- yesterday was not good.  I was afraid it was the unknown pain, and it might be, but I'm not sure.  Fortunately, I am much better today.

My trip wasn't scheduled until the end of May, and my air reservations to England were made through the travel company.  According to the airline website, I have to go through the tour company.  A bit confusing, but I will try to get help from them after a while.  I was able to get a credit for my ticket to DC from Arizona (I made those reservations).  The only other travel I have planned is a Road Scholar trip to Utah in September, and I have only put down a small deposit for that trip.  Travel and life are a gamble, but.....

DH's friend and I had a long talk last night, and he told me his elderly Aunt is in a nursing facility in Iowa -- now confined to her room with food being delivered to her door.  Very sad.

Jo Ann called, and the place she wants to move to in CA (assisted living) is not allowing anyone to move in for this month (at least).  Fortunately, her house sale hasn't happened yet, and she is taking it well.  I am pretty happy at her progress and attitude.  According to our mutual friend, she thinks some medication she was taking was causing some of her memory issues.

I sure wouldn't have wanted to get up at 4:30 a.m., Barbara.  In fact, I still don't like getting up that early.  But, I guess the driving was worth it to you.

Sorry about your shoulder pain, Claudia.  That is some story about the pressure cooker(s).  My Mom gave me one when I got married, but eventually I donated it since I didn't use it all that much. Glad you were able to get the yeast, etc.  Bread seemed to be back on the shelves last Friday -- not as much or as many varieties, but.....

Glad Adam called and is working.  My DD told me that all the hourly employees in oldest DGS' company have been furloughed.  Fortunately, he is on salary.  He is worried about getting people back when the store re-opens.  Hope that they continue to pay him as least.

I'm not surprised about the custody cases are on hold during this mess.

Hope both of you sleep well and stay safe.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

Just another day in Margaritaville. On one of our cruises we did visit a margaritaville bar..and they had really good margaritas.

i haveczero to report. M did say that Mn will be on lockdown until May 4.we found out yesterday that someone in our community died of covid19 complications...he had many issues. I am glad that everything here is closed.

I now have 3 masks..those, along with gloves will stay in the car for use when we are out. They are washable so will do that sfter each use.

Linda..it is wise to set things up for heirs. We need to redo our will. And will after the house sells. I have written instructions about everything and all 3 have those. Hope your pain is gone..I know you have doctored for that, but have you had a second opinion???i hope things work out for your friend. Our real estate agent said a lot of home sales are falling through because of financing issues.

Claudia..that is funny about the pressure cookers. I have never owned one, but my mom used hers a lot. It always scared me. Did you have bad storms last night. ???

i t was windy when I took pepper out in the open areas..but I am ready to turn on the ceiling fan

take care😍😍

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

I am back from a very windy walk.  Honestly wondered if I was going to be blown off the sidewalk a couple of times.  Yikes about the man in your area dying from the virus.  Thank goodness you are mostly staying home and safe.  I have two masks now, and someone in the neighborhood said she is making them.  I considered getting a third, but thought maybe that was overdoing things.  Now that I know you have three, I might just change my mind.

Not surprised at the longer lock-down time for MN.  I know people are getting antsy, but I would rather err on the safe side.  Of course, the economy is also very important.

My volunteer buddy called, and told me a pretty frightening story about her mother (mid 80's) who lives in CA.  She is confined to her home (trailer) at this point, and she has not been well for a while.  A married couple in her trailer park have helped her out with cleaning and taking her to the store, etc.  The other day, the man asked her for her Social Security number, and without thinking, she just blurted it out.  Then, she started to worry.  The couple had been through a bankruptcy, etc.  I guess it is possible that there is an innocent explanation, but I really can't imagine what it is.

I have been to multiple doctors and had multiple tests, Barbara.  I am doing pretty well today -- had a few minutes of heartburn this morning, but now I am fine.

Writing out all this information turned out to be a bigger job than expected.  Most of my bills are paid automatically, and I get them on-line.  Some are in my name, some have my late husband's name, etc.  The payments are mostly taken out of my bank account or credit card.  I was worried that DD would close the bank accounts and credit cards, and DH's children wouldn't even know about the bills.  And, there are several -- property tax, home owners association, recreation, gas, electric, water, sewer, internet and landline phone, trash, pest control, home insurance, etc.  Since I don't have paper bills for most of them, I am searching through e-mails.  I guess the positive is that I have been exercising less today.

I used my pressure cooker to make stock and stews a lot when I was younger.  But, I made a huge mistake once when I cooked lentils -- the pressure cooker exploded, and lentils went all over the place -- even up to the ceiling.  The pressure cooker was okay, but all that cleaning up taught me to be more cautious about what I cooked in it.  LOL

Hope you, your furbabies, and R are doing okay, Claudia and both of you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

There were storms around us last night but we escaped the brunt of them. It was a good thing as I had the recycling out for today's pick up.  Out in the countryside a barn and part of a house were demolished. Another area had 10 electric poles down in a row. They say it was straight line winds.

We had thunder and lightning but not the wind. The thunder and lightning were bad enough. The house shook. Later I let the dogs out and Tip was scared to come in. A great didn't even work. I had to get her "dad".

On one property a tree was struck by lightening and exploded.

It's a good thing you're staying home, Barbara. I have 3 masks that I ordered on Etsy.

Growing up mother would use the pressure cooker. I remember split pea soup on the kitchen ceiling at least once.

I have started to keep a notebook of information for Adam including info on family pieces and antiques so he doesn't just give things away.

Linda, could you give the name of the medical alert that you and Jean bought?  A good friend of mine called tonight. Her mother is in her upper 80's. One cold day last month her mom took her little dog out into the yard and fell. She didn't think to push the alert button and laid there an hour. A neighbor who takes the dog for a walk in the afternoon called but got no answer then stopped by but thought no one was home. After she got home she had a feeling something was wrong so called my friend who called her son as he was closer. He found "grandma" in the back yard. Got her up and in the house and warmed up. When Bev got there and took her temperature it was 93°. She's recovered well but needs something more than just the basic alert.

We are still holding at one case but I'm sure there's some undocumented ones.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

That was some storm, Claudia.  DD said they had very bad storms all night (and could not sleep), but no damage to the house.

Jean and I have MobileHelp https://www.mobilehelp.com/

There are ones that detect falls, but cost more than mine.  I may go for that one eventually, but decided I could probably press the button.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

Good afternoon..I got up early and braved the grocery store. I felt pretty protected..gloves and mask but there were more people than I thought w/o masks. I believe those are mandated when one is out. The store controlled the number of people in...I did have to ask the guy behind me in the checkout line to back off. He did..relunctantly, but I gave him "the look " so he did not mess with me. My kids tell me I can be very formidable..lol 🤪

I will take pepper out in a bit and the contemplate what to have for dinner.

Linda..I am glad that you did not get blown away..it was pretty windy...today is much nicer..a little cooler.

m said that Mn is on lockdown until May 4th.my older dgds are very bored.

Claudia..I did not look for yeast today, but I know it is in short supply here.

stay safe..🐸🐸

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Glad you were able to go to the store today, Barbara.  I took a chance and went to Safeway.  They were controlling the entrance, and quite a few people were not wearing masks.  That surprised me.  Some were younger (I did not go for the "senior" hours), but quite a few older people were not wearing them.  I asked the neighbor for another mask since both of you have three -- copy cat.

The man behind me in the checkout was a bit close, but didn't seem to respond to my glare.  But, he started putting his items on the belt before my order was finished, and the clerk made a big deal about it.  He said "oh, my bad" -- not my favorite expression.

I'm sure the kids are bored, Barbara.  I really loved school when I was young (sort of grew out of that in grad school), and I would have been bored staying home.  Of course, back then there was no internet or internet lessons, but still.

I'm back from a nice walk.  Just as I was about to turn the last corner, my neighbor called out, and we had a fairly long discussion (6 feet apart).  Her husband died toward the end of January, and she was just getting back to her art, music, and other activities when things were all canceled.  Anyway, she is interested in Road Scholar and even expressed interest on going a trip with me.  I think she is only interested in overseas trips, but....  We also talked about her husband's death, which was actually a positive experience -- lots of music, all the children around, etc., etc.  He was sick for ages, and she felt he was ready. She is struggling a bit, and is considering going to the Caregivers meetings (which I encouraged).

I found out that a former neighbor passed away two weeks ago.  He and his wife lived in Canada, but came down every year until he was too ill to travel.  He had lots of health issues, and I was surprised he lived this long.  She (who owned the house) rented it out, and I don't know if she plans to return.

DD said that DGS' fiance is not talking to her mother (she doesn't know why), but she doubts the wedding will come off in July.  Most of her relatives are out of work, so traveling to a wedding may not be in the cards.  I feel badly for her, but the mother/daughter struggle always made me wonder about the expensive wedding.

Their little dog is much better, thank goodness.  The vet suggested giving him his pills in the spray can cheese (EZ cheese?), and he took them with no issues.

Hope all is going okay there, Claudia.  I thought of you when I was in the store.  Seems like new items are missing each week.  They did have a few bags of flour this time, as well as eggs.  But, almost no Ice cream.  Last week there was plenty of ice cream.  Strange.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

Thanks, Linda for the name of th company. I will pass it on to my friend. I was pretty sure it had an option for falls.

I stayed in again today. It was very windy and rained off and on. Several loads of laundry got done along with more switching of winter vs warm weather clothes.. Maggie Mae perches on the steamer trunk and supervises. Tigger who will be 18 is slowing down more. She is still eating and getting about but naps in a cat bed for longer periods. We had a ground beef casserole for supper. Leftovers tomorrow.

Too bad about DGS and his fiancee's wedding . The pandemic has upset lots of plans, Linda. I hope something works out even if it's just a simple wedding.

Glad you were able to get some shopping done, Barbara. I'm sure your granddaughters are bored. Our schools are closed for the rest of the year along with the sports programs. It was no surprise to me.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS week of April 5

Good afternoon..my big job today is cleaning the baseboards...this is difficult so I only dona little. And I have lots of time. They need to be repainted which v may do at a later date. It is another nice day..our bedroom got pretty chilly last night. I need to water my plants when I go out with Pepper.

Linda..it sounds as if there is a lot of friction between your dgs fiancée and her mother.  Hope they can figure out a wedding date. I am doing nothing for Easter except making a nice dinner of ham and scalloped potatoes. I am going to give half of our 8 pound ham to friends. It is too bad the docs cannot figure out what is causing your pain. A

amie has had a lot of upper digestive issues and she finally found a specialist at the Mayo Clinic who figured out what it is.,she has to be careful of what sh eats and takes a proton inhibitor.

i am missing Holy Week services..we always have done very unique things with beautiful music.my friend celebrated Passover via zoom

Claudi hope your day is going well. Sydnie wants me to FaceTime when I groom Pepper.

Are the gurbabies and r behaving ?

i haven't watched any news today. I am boycotting the White House briefings.

Stay safe, try not to go stir crazy. 🤪😇
