Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

Good Afternoon!  Glad the insurance came through quickly for R, Claudia.  DD got her new outdoor lights after she got her new doors.  For one thing, she changed the door color and trim so black worked better than brass.  And, one of the lights had been broken when the old storm door blew open.  Anyway, it is probably best to wait until you get the new door.  Hope Tippy the mischief maker is behaving today, but I doubt it.  Also hope you, R, and the other furbabies are doing okay.

I think you are wise to take dresses, Barbara.  It is very hot here, and probably hotter in Phoenix.  I may have mentioned that I have taken to wearing sleeveless dresses around the house because they are cooler than pants or even shorts.  Glad Syd's first day went okay -- wonder why the boy was falling asleep -- yikes!

Sorry your infusion isn't working well yet, and Amie has to have additional testing done.  Hopefully, her results will be the same as M's.  It is very strange that both girls had problems about the same time.

I think you may have been thinking about different types of lights.  These are the ones on the house at the front -- on either side of the front door plus over the garage.

I definitely think the new workout had something to do with my aches and pains, but the pain reliever last night did the trick.   I certainly enjoyed the rest.

As you may have read on the other thread, my security screen doors are made, and now just need to be painted.  I am hopeful that they may be installed next week, which would be great.  Also, my hearing aids are working better now that the audiologist has adjusted them.

I'll probably pick up a couple of things at the grocery store this afternoon, but no other big plans.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

P.S. Have a safe trip, Barbara.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

Safe travels, Barbara. I'm glad the prednisone will help while you're in Phoenix. Thinking positive thoughts for Amie's results.

R had 2 shots today. I can't recall the name of the med but he is to have it a month before the 1st Lupron shot. Tomorrow we leave by 7 for his VA pain clinic appointment.

Linda, I was thinking long of the lights on either side of the front door. Changing the bulbs in ours is not easy. I found some I like art deco in style but I hope to replace the door first. I'm glad your security screen doors are almost ready to install and your hearing aids are working better.

Tip continues to bounce up and down in front of Griff when he's to come in but hardly barks at him. He usually gives her a resigned look and heads in the house. I just got the recycling out to the curb for tomorrow's pickup.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

I no longer am cold..lol. It was 114 when we landed.  My body really did not co operate this morning...I ended up being pushed in a wheelchair at both airports. I even got one at the rental car place. I stoppped at the store to get some water and juice and I am much more mobile.

i am going to get an early dinner because I have eaten little and need some food. There is a Mexican place calling my name.

Hope your day is going well.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

It's a good idea to save your energy for what matters, Barbara. I hope you enjoy your early dinner and sleep well.

We're home from the VA. It was determined a steroid injections would not help. They are recommending a tens unit, acupuncture, and water therapy. It appears R was right. The hip seems to be the problem. R's regular doctor will need to make the referrals.

He has been sleeping better with the c-pap machine but daytime falls asleep with no warning. That means I do most of the driving for now. Yikes. Of course he insisted on heading out to bowling tonight. I told him though if the pain gets too bad to come home but you know he won't do any such thing.

I hope your day has gone well, Linda.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

Glad you made it okay, Barbara.  Smart idea to get the wheelchairs.   The temperatures in Phoenix make our weather seem cool -- I think the high was 100 or so.  It is usually cooler here than Tucson, and Tucson is cooler than Phoenix.  This is all related to the elevation.  I still find it strange that it is cooler in the south than the north.  Hope you enjoyed your dinner.

I am glad they are trying new treatments for R, Claudia.  I hate to think of him in pain, and maybe this will help.  Hope bowling wasn't too much for him.

I'm posting so late because my Caregivers activities went late and then I went to the gym.  I still need to take the guide the trainer wrote for me into the gym since it says what weight to use, number of repetitions, etc.

The lunch part of Caregivers was good and the meeting was pretty intense. A couple of new ladies who spent a lot of time in tears.  Very emotional.  Then, four of us went out for coffee (actually, I had iced tea/lemonade) and talked and talked.  One of the ladies was going on a trip, but found out she had pneumonia, and another found she had diverticulitis.  Getting old isn't for sissies as they say.

DD said DGD went to the ear doctor again today, and now will be going to another specialist since she keeps getting ear infections.  It sounded like her deck may have been finished today, which would be great.

I'm having lots of trouble with my hearing aid dongle, and I hope to figure it out.  If not, I will need to go back to the audiologist.  Hopefully, not, but....

Hope both of you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

P.S. Will you be singing at the memorial service, Barbara?

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

Good Afternoon/Evening!  Hope all is well with you and yours, Claudia.  DD's deck is finally finished!  Of course, there are always other projects to do around the house, but.....

I forgot to ask about their weather.  It is hot again here, but should not make it to 100 (just 99 or so).  They are still calling for cooler weather starting Sunday, and a chance of rain.  As you may have read on the other thread, it wasn't bad on my walk this morning due to clouds and not too hot temperatures.

I guess today is the day of the Memorial service, Barbara.  Hope it was a good one.  I'm sure your friend really appreciates your being there.

My dongle for my hearing aid/phone is just not working.  I left a message for the audiologist, but no call back so far.  I think she is only in our area on Wednesday or Thursday, but I would like to set something up for next week, if possible.

Meanwhile, I kept going back and forth about getting to and from Phoenix for my trip, and finally decided to use a pretty expensive, but great, local service.  The owner called me, and convinced me to make a hotel reservation for the day I get back, so I have everything settled in terms of the ride up and back plus the hotel before and after the trip.  The only other things I need to settle are getting the phone service for international service (I have heard that Verizon will let you pay for just a month), and getting some Euros from the bank plus making sure that I get a good rate (it has been promised) for the foreign surcharge -- not the right word, but.....  Supposedly, my status at the bank entitles me to some perks, so I will take advantage of them (if true).

Jean told me about the medical alert she purchased, so I have been looking at some options.  The one a couple of my friends have gets pretty low ratings, so I probably will not use it.  Not planning to purchase until I return from my trip.

I did my grocery shopping -- mostly produce, and I have no other big plans.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

Good evening...the memorial service was very beautiful..the singing went well. It was quite a moving service..I used several Kleenex. His family provided very lovely tributes to him..and some of his recorded music was played. I am very glad I came.

i did not bringbchoir clothes..black pants and a white shirt but v put the house keys in my purse, so I was able to stop and change into what I needed.the house looked very good..

no dead bugs.

I was on daylight savings time so I awakened quite early this morning. I am a little tired.

Linda..I think it is good planning to have that hotel room booked.hope you can get your hearing aid adjusted. I know that caregiving is very overwhelming...and I have had to do very little but was exhausting.

Claudia..that was great pic of the puppies..they are gorgeous.

Sleep well...110 here today.🥵🥵

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

R has another VA appointment scheduled for the middle of the month. I think an evaluation to see if a tens(?) unit helps.Middle

A bit ago I caught Tippy doing her best to chew and swallow one of R's socks. How she reached it I don't know. Then I put her out. She managed to sneak into the garage without R seeing her and he shut door. 5 minutes later he asked where she was then searched the yard until I told him to check the garage. I'm surprised she wasn't loudly complaining.

good for your DD having her deck finished. Of course it's then onto the next project, Linda. I hope the audiologist gets back to you so you can be scheduled for next week. It's a good idea to have a hotel stay before and after the trip. I'm glad you arranged a ride up and back.

I hope the memorial service went well, Barbara.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

Good Morning/Afternoon!  Glad the memorial service went so well, Barbara.  I have decided that I should probably avoid funeral or memorial services for a while longer -- still fragile.  Fortunately, none to attend lately.  Glad there were no dead bugs in your house.  Hope you got some rest last night.

Your dogs are really good looking, Claudia.  Seems like Tippy is still very much in the mischievous stage.  Hope the machine helps with R's pain.   I think (not sure) one of my grands used that type of machine after a football injury.

As you may have seen on the other thread, the audiologist called yesterday. She gave me the number for the company helpline, and I'll try them on Monday.  If it doesn't work, I will see her on Wednesday morning.

Hope you have a safe trip back to MN, Barbara.

It is hot here, but I am still hoping the forecast for cooler weather tomorrow and for the next few days turns out to be accurate.

I'm doing the laundry, changing the sheets, etc. in advance of the hospice visit.  Hope both of you have a good day

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of September 1

I missed your post yesterday, Barbara. We must have been posting around the same time. I'm glad you were able to get in the house for the choir clothes. Even better, there were no bugs.

It's been a rather cool day here. After 4 tries I managed to corral Spot to take him to the vet clinic 3 miles away at Tractor Supply for shot updates. Definitely weighs more than 30 pounds. Once there though he was so scared and upset he growled and got my finger with his claw while still in the carrier. He was the biggest cat they'd ever seen. That ended the plan to take the lid off the carrier. He'll need a sedative (good luck with that) before a trip to a full service vet. I had wanted to spare him the longer drive but no such luck. Usually when scared (by the sweeper or something else) he's paralyzed with fear but not this time.

Poor fellow. He never would have survived outside but I'm not sure how much of a favor I did bringing him in with mama. He's happy though with the other cats and shows himself early morning and again in the evening. Likes to be brushed  but a noise will send him running.

Sorry the hospice visit was cancelled, Linda.. I hope Monday's call to the helpline gets the hearing aid and Bluetooth working.
