REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

I just realized that the year is half over..time does fly. I am not interested in CIJ..I do minimal decorating at this topime in my life.

we had some storms earlier this morning...MORE ARE DUE LATER AS THE HEAT AND HUMIDITY increases..

i have nothing planned for today...I found sweet corn for 19 cents an ear, so we will have grilled chicken and corn for dinner. That is one of my favorite meals.

hope you are both enjoying your day. 😘😘

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

Good Morning/Afternoon and thanks for getting us started, Barbara.  I got some corn at Sprouts yesterday and had an ear last night for dinner.  It was good, but I can't say it is one of my top favorites.  Hope you enjoy your dinner.  Also hope the heat and humidity don't get too bad for you.  It is hot here, but not much chance of rain today.  They are predicting thunderstorms for tomorrow.

I am trying to cut back on decorating for Christmas and other holidays, and I have made some progress.  But, I still really enjoy decorating.  Right now I have my 4th of July decorations, little flags, place mats, etc.  I know it is crazy since i live alone and most of the decorations are in the house (no visitors), but.......  Still have not ordered the TSV, but I can't say I won't do so later.

This morning I decided it was time to replace my "walking shoes" -- they did not last all that long, but I do a lot of walking.  Fortunately, I had a back-up pair ready to go.

As you may have seen on the other thread, I got to bed late yesterday evening, but I felt I had to walk fairly early due to the heat.  I'll be going to the gym after church.

Hope things are going okay there, Claudia, and both of you have a nice Sunday.

Hugs,

Linda

P.S. They sent the bill for my Italy trip yesterday, which made me realize that time is flying.  Yikes!

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

I ignore CIJ,  Barbara. At this point I am limiting decorations. Dealing with dogs, cats, remodels, and R take most of my energy.

As long as you enjoy decorating, you should go ahead and do it , Linda. So what if few people see it.

I took down the large picture over the mantel. I'm it's place I hung a large print I recently found tucked away because it needed framed. It's finally framed. Let's see how long it takes R to notice

Today was cooler but windy off and on. I cleaned the yard about noon. An hour later I went out only to find a very big branch down from the yard behind us and over our fence. Luckily there was no damage to our fence and it didn't come down when I was back there cleaning up the yard. This is the same tree that a couple years ago broke off in a wind storm and landed in our yard.

There are 3 trees along the fence line boundary that grew from seedlings that sprouted and weren't pulled up when they sprouted. In fact one tree has grown into the property line fence. This branch is part of the new growth. I really wish instead of having the trees trimmed they had cut down the one that broke off. Instead it sprouted lots of new growth.

Funny thing. I had just been thinking I should get the long handled pruner and take off the new heavy growth that was hanging over our yard.

Tippy ran out and tried to pull part of it. Griff went out, shrugged and p**d on it. Once R got home he was able to twist it loose from the trunk. He thinks he should be able to chop it up.

No corn is ready here. Many of the fields haven't been planted. What was planted will not be "knee high by the 4th of July".

R turned up unexpectedly last night about 9 pm. He had forgotten he needed money for the shoot. He decided not to go back till morning. I guess the mattress on the ground wasn't very comfortable plus it was miserably not outside.

When is the Italy trip, Linda?

My Italy trip isn't until the end of September, but they wanted the payment by July 15th.

Kind of glad R came home to a softer bed.  Sorry about that limb in your yard.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

Good afternoon...it is extremely humid here...feels like what I recall the south to be like in the summer. The ac is still on because I do not function well in this kind of weather.

Amie and her family were out in Colorado in the mountains last week. They used one of our timeshares and loved it. Colorado is one of my favorite places.

Syd and I spent the morning shopping for food for the week. Vs kids are very picky so I had to stock up on their favorites..hot dogs and deli turkey. I have other meals plNned for the rest of us.

Linda..I am really trying only to spend on necessities...la took a toll on my budget. 😜 I rarely watch Qvc anymore...it is not as entertaining as it once was. I am sure your Italy trip will be lovely.

Claudia..r was smart to come home to sleep...you are so busy with him and the fur babies. I always hope that you find time for yourself.

enjoy the rest of your day. I need to recover for a while. 💜💜

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

Good Afternoon!  Hope you recover from your shopping and are ready to entertain, Barbara.  Good that you got food for those picky eaters.  Sorry it is so humid there.  It is hot here, but definitely not humid.  Nice that Amie and family enjoyed Colorado.

I didn't order the TSV yesterday since I had read some negative things about it not working after a little while.  Good thing since I really, really don't need any more decorations.  I'm not down to buying only necessities, but I am trying to make wise choices and not buy unnecessary stuff.  Enough is enough.

Really hope the new handyman is good and can help with my screen doors.  Not sure how much it will cost, but it needs to be done.

Hope you, R, and your furbabies are doing okay, Claudia.  Like Barbara, I hope you can carve out a little time for yourself, but I know that is difficult.

Oldest DGS has been sent to a different store (in VA or PA) to try to straighten things out, and he does not know when he will be back.  Hopefully, by Thursday, but who knows.  Meanwhile youngest DGS finally was informed that he could take a test for another certification, and he will be doing so around the 12th.  He had to go through the college, and he started asking last December.  Yikes!  It costs $200, and I sent him the money already.  He had spent his money on a trip last weekend to Hershey Park with his buddies.  I think they had a good time.  Army DGS found his boss is pregnant and planning to take off some time starting in December.  He will be the one in charge while she is out, and he is pretty happy about it.  Meanwhile, DGD has been promoted, and she will be able to work remotely one day a week soon.  DD is working (for free) with a client who has moved from a house to an apartment.  She needs to have photos, etc. so she can start to get paying clients.  I am surprised she is already starting, but I'm very pleased.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

I'm glad you got the food for your picky eaters, Barbara. That's one thing out of the way. I don't like these humid days at all.  I imagine LA took a toll on your budget

How nice Amie and family were able to use one of your timeshares.

R tried to start his chain saw to cut up the branches but his left arm hurt too much. We may end up using a hatchet. I mowed out back only because rain is expected the next 4 days. I moved the tree limb and attached branches to the side of the garage. I even managed to mow a bit out front before the batteries needed recharged.

Linda, I hope this handyman can fix the screen door at a reasonable cost. It sounds like things are going well for your DD and family.

R had a large surplus storage case arrive that he has set up in the dining room for some of his collection. I am not pleased and told him it had better be temporary. He has the garage, the back room, and a spare room upstairs. Arghh. I'm trying to get rid of things and he is adding more.

I hope to go to bed earlier tonight. Pippin's food arrived and I refilled the cat food storage containers. One I mix half and half with the regular cat food.  Pippen doesn't always eat out of his dish and this way I know he's eaten at least some of his special food. Tippy's puppy food has been reordered. I will be glad when she can have adult dog food. That I can buy locally.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

I am late in posting I spent some time with my rheumatologist discussing my new treatment. He had to run a lot of blood work to check for underlying conditions that could give me grief. There are some serious side effects that he had to share with me.  He is not worried . I do have to be here for 2 plus weeks when I get these infusions.

He is is very optimistic that this sill help a lot.

The kids are here..They are very lively with lots of running, giggling and screaming.None of that bothers me..they are happy noises.

Linda..we have to have our screen door in Az..custom made because it is very tall. It sounds as if your dgs is doing well...I. Fact, all of them are. I wonder when the monsoons will start.

Claudia...r is definitely adding to your clutter...Vs desk is a mess, but on a casino he can make it neat.Hope you got some sleep .

Peppers vet said she is resource guarding Sydnie...when Syd is not here, mashed is either on her bed or under it. So we have to work on getting that to stop. She thinks pepper does it because Syd was gone so much this last year.

Sleep well. 😘😘

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

Just what you needed, Claudia -- more stuff.  Hope you did manage to get to bed early.  You seem to have lots of work to accomplish every day.

Really hope the new drug works out, Barbara.  Glad the kids are there and seem happy.  Good luck with Pepper.

As you may have read on the other thread, the screen door(s)--  both front and side --are not standard sizes, and I'm not sure when the handyman will be able to get them.  The front screen door was so bad that he just took it down.  The side one isn't great, but he assured me it will not fall off or anything.  At least I feel comfortable that this handyman won't make a mess of things -- nice guy who was with the canine unit when he was with the police (just retired last December or so), and also did something at the CA State level with canine units (not clear what).  Anyway, he has a side business as a dog trainer and has three dogs, including a retired police dog and a dog he and his wife found when they were hiking in the mountains around here.

When I thought everything was going so well with DD and family, a big problem has arrived.  My SIL was waiting for a government contract -- things have been up and down with the contract (long story), and today they told him that the contract has been pulled back.  He is probably out of a job soon, and I'm sure it is a terrible blow to him. All four kids are working and DD is even trying to start a business.  He has a long history of depression, and this could be very bad.  Hopefully, he will find another job soon or the company will find another contract for him.  I know they think a lot of him.

Oldest DGS was almost to Philadelphia when he got a call to turn around and go to a store in VA.  After work, they asked him to go to Chicago for a month to help with some new (I think new) stores opening there.  He could have opted out, and doesn't want to go to Chicago for a month.  But, he realizes that if he turns it down he will probably not be offered another opportunity.  So, he will go to Chicago in a couple of weeks.  The funny thing is that DGD was on a conference call with a client, and they said they wanted her to go to a convention in Chicago and speak at a convention.  She was horrified at the idea (not into public speaking and not ready at all).  Fortunately, her boss told them she was too busy, so he will go and give the speech.  In many ways, she is much more mature than her age,but definitely not ready for something like giving a talk at a convention.

The senior lunch program was wild today.  We had an independence Day celebration, and there were tons of people.  I did not realize that it was free since it was sponsored by an insurance company.  Anyway, We had an extra volunteer plus a summer helper and still were overwhelmed.  My buddy had at least double the number of people at the salad bar than signed up, and the other volunteer and I were really hustling to get out the hot dogs, beans, potato salad, and blueberry/strawberry shortcakes.  I think everyone had a good time, but we were pretty tired.

The gym went well, and I picked up a DVD at the library on the way home.  Now, I can relax a little.

Hope both of you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of June 30

Barbara, I really hope your new treatment will be everything you're hoping for. Happy noises are good noises. Enjoy the visit.

Poor Pepper. I'm sure she really missed Sydnie. That behavior needs nipped early on though.I

Another hot day. Luckily it hasn't rained yet. I finished the lawn. R tried to start the chainsaw again but wasn't able to. Instead he took the pressure washer and did the sides of the house and under the gutters. By the end of it he hurt too much to move.

Tomorrow is an ultrasound at the VA Medical Center plus he's to have 2 x-rays of the hip and 4 of the spine.

I dropped several things off at Goodwill and the recycling is out at the curb. Cardboard will go out in the morning.

Linda, what unhappy news for your DD and SIL. I hope another contract comes through. It sounds like eldest gs made the right choice even though it was one bedding want. I'm definitely siding with your dgd about public speaking.

Our first house was stone and did not have standard size doors or windows. It sure was a pain to replace all of them.

The dogs are out and should be coming in soon. I'm thankful for the fenced yard every day.
