Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

I'm glad you had your infusion, and hope your headache goes away soon, Barbara.  Happy your plane was not diverted.  At my travel class a couple of weeks ago, the couple had all sorts of problems getting from Tucson to Europe due to someone getting sick on the plane, weather delays, etc.

DD isn't looking for a job, but I sure wish that she would.  I think she is very busy chauffeuring kids around, etc.  And, that will continue for a while since two of them will probably be going to the community college in the Fall.   And, she really needs to have some training/education before she can get a decent job.  I think I should have put my foot down many years ago, and it is so difficult for me to do so now.

To be fair, she did not ask for money for the washer/dryer, but she did tell me that they had to raid their account to come up with the first payment, etc.  Glad M has not been asking for help for so long -- sounds like she is on the right track.

I could not believe it, but they delivered DH's medicine around 10:15 last night.  He was already in bed by then.  Yikes!  I think things went well at day services today, and he ate the lunch I prepared.

Hope things are going okay for you, Claudia, and both of you sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Sorry to hear that you are having internet and dog issues, Claudia.  I would really hate for you to have to give up Griff.  I hope the vet comes up with some good suggestions.  I know that there are behavioral specialists for dogs, but I'm not sure if one could help or how available they are.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

Despite the headache, I decided to go to my knitting group. It was fun to catch up with everyone. It is a nice day out but quite windy so it feels chilly.

claudia...hope the Internet gets fixed quickly. That is too bad about griff...I hope you can figure it out.

Linda, that was pretty late for a delivery...yikes.Interesting that your dd never worked outside of the home. My youngest brothers wife really did not like any work she did so was happy to stay home. Once they had their children after 17 years of marriage.like I said it is good that we can help now when they need it.

I hope dh dh is having another good day. I know you are enjoying your classes.

i cleaned through the pile of throws that we have and found several suitable for Pepper to lay on..

I hope your dat is going well.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

Good Evening!  Glad you were able to go to your knitting group despite the headache, Barbara.   Good that you were able to find the throw.

Funny story -- DH's DD family has been fostering a male feral kitten for six weeks.  The organization decided to neuter the kitten, and when "he" came back, it turned out that it was a "she".  Her new name is "Princess" -- beautiful kitten.  His DD wondered about the sex, but she didn't really know.

DH did pretty well today.  We went for a walk in the morning, and then I took a longer walk by myself.  After lunch, I took him to day services, and I went on the my British history class.  I'm a bit disappointed, since this is a "short topics" class, and I think I have heard several of them in a previous class.  Oh well.....

The nurse came right on time, which was good.  He brought me a stack of the Safeway monopoly playing pieces -- still no winners.  He said that he will talk to others about the pharmacy late deliveries.  If they can't do better, they may need to switch to a different pharmacy.  I asked for refills for two other prescriptions since I don't have many pills, and I'm concerned that they may not deliver them before we are out of medicine.

My SIL didn't work much after she and my brother got married -- part time for a few months.  When my brother passed, she had a terrible time finding and keeping a job, etc.  Even when she did find a job, she didn't make much money, and I still need to help pay for her car.

And, after my brother passed,  I gave her quite a bit of money so she could pay off some debts and fines, etc.  I know she didn't want to work, and I think my brother didn't push her to do so.  Not a good idea at all -- I think she realized it after he passed. You are correct -- it is good that we can help, but ......

Hope that the VA trip went okay, Claudia, and I hope your internet is back soon.

Sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

Good morning...I am feeling much better this morning...my headache got pretty bad yesterday afternoon..but not unexpected.

i have to figure out how to get 2 40 pound bags of rock salt in the house. Sydnie is very strong so I will wait until she gets home to have her help me. Once they are in the house, I can slide them down the stairs. We may go to home delivery at some point.

nothing else planned..I am going to start putting my heavier winter sweaters away.

Linda...that is a funny story about the cat....

i onky have have one friend who did not work full time. Amie really does not have to work but she said she could not imagine being home full time. Her salary goes into investments for their retirement.

You ou most certainly went above and beyond for your sil...I remember when you were doing all of that.

glad dh had another good day.

Claudia...hope the Internet gets fixed today.

have a good one.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

Glad you are feeling better, Barbara.  Hope Syd helped with those heavy bags of salt.  Several of my friends worked part-time after they had children, or waited until the kids were in school before going back to work.  I was so young when I had DD (21), I hadn't really worked yet.  My Mom went back to work when I was 13 to pay for college for the two of us.  I always thought it was a good idea to have a career to fall back on just in case your husband lost his job, died, or left you. Very happy that I did, but I think DD resented my working.

Interesting class today (gender/women's studies), and after lunch I went to the gym -- tiring, but....  Off to pick up DH.

Hope your internet is back soon, Claudia, and both of you have a nice evening.

Hugs,

Linda

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

It will be in the mid 50s here today...az will be much warmer when I return tomorrow. Looking forward to lots of pool time since v is now playing bridge every day...lol.

syd has dress rehearsal most of the day. I have straightened up as much as I can for now. M dumped her purse out and left most of it laying on the floor. Yikes. It will be interesting when Pepper gets home.😜

I have taken several classes in womens women's studies and have always enjoyed them.

hope Claudias internet gets fixed.

have a great day...hope dh does well.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

The phone and internet are back and working. It appears to be a problem with the exterior line. The repair person turned up 2 hours late but I'm just glad he turned up. I still am irritated though at the impossibility of talking to a real person.

R has a VA dental appointment Monday. I wish I could to change it but it's already been rescheduled once. I lined up Adam to take him so I can attend a funeral. My former partner's stepson died suddenly. His dad also worked at our office for 10 or 12 years. The son was only 37. When I texted her they were on the way to IN where he lived. They of course are devastated.

I'm glad you're feeling better, Barbara.

I found out R fell twice when at the rendezvous. He's also been sick having caught whatever his buddy had  Whit and Mike's anniversary is the 4th. I've lost 2 card I picked up. The loss of the last card I blame on R since he carried that grocery bag in. I gave up and rather than buying a 3rd anniversary card used one of my notecards and enclosed a check.

I am another who always worked. Like Linda I felt it was better to have something to fall back on plus deputy sheriff's pay made it a necessity. I would not be surprised to find Whitney if not Adam resented it. Mother didn't work except for a bit of private duty nursing when Anne and Eileen were young.

Re: REFORMED SHOPAHOLICS. Week of February 21

it is warm and sunny here, Barbara.  I'm sure you will enjoy the pool when you return.  We had a guest speaker yesterday who was from MN.  I think (not sure) that she had been in charge of special education type classes in MN (maybe just Minneapolis).  She has been heavily involved in women's books/studies, and she also has a bookclub with 100 members.  The class leader found out about her through a friend, and I think she needed to be on a waiting list to join the bookclub.  The lady said that she picked all the books, and reads them three times before the discussions.  Wonder if you ever met her -- Glenda Martin?

Happy you have your internet back, Claudia.  Sorry about your partner's loss -- what a shame that her stepson died so young.  Also sorry that R had those falls.  I don't blame you about not wanting to buy a third anniversary card -- especially since cards are so pricey these days.  My ex made plenty of money sometimes, but he was without a job for several years, and had very little if any job security.  I really liked having health insurance and a pension I could count on.  Given what happened with us, I'm so grateful that I decided to work outside the home.

Nothing exciting going on here, which is fine with me.  I am doing my regular laundry and I'll do my financial review later.  I also want to go to the grocery store for a few things and take a walk.  It would be good to go swimming, but I'm not sure I'll have time.

Hope both of you have a nice evening and sleep well.

Hugs,

Linda
