Question/suggestions about wedding attire please

My son is getting married next month and I am not sure what is ok to wear. I was told that I needed to wat until I found out what the brides mom was going to wear first. She is wearing almond type of navy formal dress. I would prefer to wear a tea length. I would love to wear Navy as that is what I am finding a lot of but I don't think I should probably wear the same color. Thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated!

I apologize I typed two posts about the same topic. I forgot I did this last night. All of this is kind of making me crazy!

Mother of the Groom --- Wear beige and be quiet.....hahaha.....wish my mother-in-law had done that. I married in summer and wanted the Moms in pastel shades but she chose navy blue and said nothing to me until after it had been bought , altered and shoes dyed.

You get the picture.

If the brides mother hasn't chosen by now, then get your dress. When you have it call the bride and let her know the color and style.

What time of day is wedding reception ? That dictates the length of dress.

There's an earlier thread on the subject.  No!  you do not purchase your dress and then tell the bride and her mother what you did.  That's a good way to forever ruin your relationship with your future dil.  The brides's mom chooses her  dress and generally she speaks with the grooms mother and they discuss color and style.  If she goes long, you go long.  If she goes short, you go short and you choose a color that coordinates with the wedding colors but you get the bride's opinion first.  Every bride has a vision for her wedding and you should respect that.  Perhaps you can invite the bride and her mom over for lunch or coffee and dessert to discuss your dresses.
