If the MOB is going formal, as MOG, I'd do the same. Whatever length dress she chooses, I'd wear similar.
While the dresses pictured are lovely, silver/gray family is not easy to wear. Depending on a person's coloring, it can wash you out. (I know I could not wear it) Personally I would not choose to wear a color the bridal party is wearing. Mauve or rose would be a great choice.
Enjoy the day.

I wouldn't want to stand out in the photos. I'd want to blend in and look like I belonged and was supportive of the whole thing.

My son is getting married in October. I asked the bride what she wanted me to wear. She wanted me in silver/gray, very hard colors to wear. It is a formal wedding so it is a gown that I will be wearing. I went online looking and found something at Dillard's, more than I wanted to spend. I think it is important for you to look nice and be comfortable, it's a long day.

My son just got married last October. I am not the type to wear anything stiff, formal or the typical matronly looking mother dresses. I found a lovely tea length dress in the better dresses dept. of my local Macys. It was a complete hit! I got so many compliments and didn't feel doudy. It photographed really well too. When deciding, I did text a photo to my DIL and got her approval before I bought it though.

@isaboo wrote:My son is getting married next month and I don't know what kind of dress to wear. The brides mom is wearing a navy blue formal type. Is it ok if I wear a nice dress that isn't really formal? Also what is a good color to get? The wedding colors are gray and maroon. I have seen many navy ones I like but I don't think it would be a good idea to wear the same color as her mom. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated.
talk to the bride,
my daughter is getting married I picked my dress and sent a pic to the other mother so she will know what I am wearing.
We won't care if she wears the same color but some might,
IMO start looking there are tons of dresses out there but I found it hard to find that special one,

I’d ask DIL....long or short? She may say it doesn’t matter to her in which case you’re home free. If she specifies one over the other, you have a starting point.
