@smoochy wrote:of what I consider my old lady clothes. 😬 the loud printed embellished tops that seemed like a great deal at Bealls. They were cheap. They look cheap. Anything with fussy looking prints. I'm paring down to plain oversized tees in mostly white and black, with classic jeans from Democracy and NYDJ. A few white pants. A simple black SG midi dress that I can wear with flip flops or a nicer sandal. That's the look and level of comfort I want. My jewelry is already minimal, a classic silver statement ring, pearl stud earrings, silver bracelet or large watch. Silver cartouche style pendant that contains my sons ashes. I will have fewer clothes but classier, more timeless items. What I really need is Talbots clothing on a smaller budget.
HAHA wish I had your "courage"! I am constantly "cleaning" but always think I may NEED something later...I have so many clothes that I do not wear...I am retired so I do not NEED them but still....I need to get tougher with myself and simplfy!!!!

I've been trying to declutter my clothing and it is so hard! This time as I organize my closet, I'm trying the turn the hanger around trick to see if that helps.

I do that too. I put all of my tops on a hanger facing the same way. After I wear it, the top goes back on the coat hanger & is hung up the apposite way.

I have never been in a Talbots store (the closest one is 90 miles away) but I have bought several very nice Talbots items on ebay. The sizing is consistent and the quality is top notch. You might want to try looking there for good prices.

Cute story about squeaky shoes.
Many, many years ago, when I was young and foolish, I found a pair of platinum lizard alligator shoes with a frame handbag that were just too precious to stay in the store, back in the late 1960s-early 70s. The price was $900 for the set. That is a lot of money now and it was exorbitant back then.
I talked the lady owner of the store into letting me have them for $750 and I would pay them off in 3 months with no interest. That is when people knew you and trusted you and made money off their trust.
I had never charged anything like that before and knew my dear husband was going to be angry. Knowing I didn't have my granddaddy to call on any longer to help me out of my financial woes, I wore them to work but felt so guilty.
I worked in a storied building. As I got off the elevator, I noticed the shoes squeaked. A VP was getting off an elevator across from mine. When I walked, the shoes squeaked. He said "when you pay for those shoes, they will quit squeaking."
Oh, my. I had no idea how he knew but I smiled and went on to my desk. I mentioned to one of my comrades what he had said, feeling very ashamed. She knew I had charged the shoes because she knew how bad I wanted them. She said "Oh, my. That's just an old saying. People say that all the time. It comes from the depression era. He had no idea you had charged those shoes."
As newlyweds, I feared my husband seeing them. He did not squeak when he saw them, knowing how much they cost. He growled. He roared. He got over it. We are still living together today.

I purge my closet every 6 months because I buy too many c,others abd each time I say to myself, I'm not buying any more clothes, but I do. I love buying clothes. I;d probably be well off if I stopped buying but life is too short not to enjoy the little things in life. I don't have any debt. I can pay my mortgage and taxes and my household expenses and I feel I am pretty fortunate all things considered. All my clothing goes to the local Battered Women's shelter
