Since my closet has been emptied for the renovation I will be reviewing the items before I hang then up again. I know I have a maxi that I wore once and even though it is a petite its too long and I do not care to pay to have it hemmed and my arthritis prevents me from doing it myself

let me clarify that I'm not giving up color! I like and look good in bright colors. I couldn't wear only black and white. But I'm going with solids now instead of prints. This will allow my jewelry and handbags to stand out more.

I wish I could purge more than I do but I'm a work in progress I guess.  At least if I do purchase something, something has to go........I refuse to purchase new hangers, now that's a start!   LOL!

Re: Purging my wardrobe

[ Edited ]

Seems I'm always purging. That's probably a sign I have too much. I have a bag in my basement for cast offs, and when it gets full I either sell or donate the items. I get rid of something because it's worn, or I don't like it anymore, or it doesn't fit and flatter, or it's not comfortable. I'm not concerned if someone else thinks the piece is "old lady" or "youthful" or some other style I shouldn't wear.

If I'm on the fence about an item, I make myself wear it all day. That usually helps me make a decision to keep it or not. Another great question to ask is, "Would I buy this today?" The answer to that question cuts through indecision.

I have filled 2 large bags this month. I purged jeans and pants that were too tight. Don't know why, but I bought a body con dress a few months ago. Tried it with a shaper underneath, but I'm never going to wear it. I got rid of tops, tees, and sweaters that I don't like anymore or need. I also purged 2 handbags and 4 pairs of shoes that I don't like or wear. One pair of shoes squeaked. 😱

@smoochy  What brand(s) oversize tee shirts do you recommend? I have been buying Lands End Tall (because I like the longer length for yoga), although I am medium regular length in their cotton tee.

I did that back in 1997 (right after I bought Linda Dano's book).  Best decision I ever made.

Looking Great

Good luck .... I hope it turns out for you as well as it did for me.

I'm laughing about the squeaky shoes. I had a pair years ago and tried to wear them more than once. I finally threw them away. I couldn't pass them on to anyone else.

I also bought her book in the 90's. I think it's still the best book on fashion that I have ever read. I still refer back to it today. It totally changed my shopping habits.
