Please stick with numeric sizing on pants and jeans. Tops are so loose and forgiving now days that a discrepancy in fit is no big deal. One size up or down in jeans can be a horrible fit. Even within the same lines one up can swim on you and the one down can choke you off in the gut. I won't name names. Oh what the heck, its Laurie Felt. I seem to do better with D&C but those jeans would be better in numeric sizes also. I can't wait until I can get back to the stores and try on my Lees.

@depglass Denim is my go-to fabric choice for so many bottoms, but if I can't ever shop locally for them again, it won't be. Of all the denim in my wardrobe, there's only one from QVC. It did come with numeric sizing, but if I had a figure that let me tuck my tops, I would have returned even that one. because the side pockets gap a bit.
As much as I love jeans, they are close to the hardest item for me to get a fit I like, and that's true even when I'm trying on NYDJ in Nordstrom or Bloomies where I've bought most of those I wear.

It is so much cheaper to do letter sized, elastic waisted. One size fits no one.

I won't buy a jean that's numeric. Has to waist size. Most jean are. It separates them from pants. Waist sizes are very different from their numeric counterparts.

I just started buying numeric sizes - and the fit is so much better.
I'm on the smaller of the two sizes of the alpha sizing - so pants are a bit baggy through the hips/thighs and I end up having to take in the side seams and shorten the rise.
Knits are too much trouble to alter - so no more knit pants for me!

Exactly. No thanks.

I always assumed it was easier for jeans manufacturers to make lettered sizes because they would need fewer different sizes and fewer shapes. Easier for them, but lettered sizing doesn't fit me.
I also prefer numbered sizes with options for short, regular, or tall.

Jean companies don't do them. Some like Gap & Old Navy. But the the others like Rag & Bone, 3X1, Frame, J Brand, etc. all user waist size. I just know my waist size. Never have any trouble with an ill fitting jean. Waist size is the ratio between waist and hip. Also I always have zipper and button closure. I won't buy jeans that have elastic waist. I don't wear this pull on stuff.

Thanks for that info, @songbird. I bought nothing but Levi's since I was a kid. I was used to buying my jeans by inches of waist and inseam until I was in my 50's. I do buy other brands now and find that numbered sizes or lettered sizes don't do it for me. I'll still go to the Levi's Outlet Store to get a pair that really fits.
I've always wished that ladies' jeans and slacks were sized like men's pants -- by waist and inseam.

Odd man out!
I hate numbered sizing and will def pass on it (if ordering online and would have to pay to return). Won't even try.
I always feel like I am between sizes when numbered.
Lettered sizing has some give and flexibility to fit me.
