Not quite unless Great Grandma was very young.  They were popular, but no more attractive, in the '70s.

I have a couple of pair for fall/winter and I do look good in them if I say so myself. 😉

While I do agree with the OP that they are very unflattering, it's not up to me to try to deny them for those who do like them.  There are enough choices in clothing for everyone to find something to suit them.  What we all wear is probably what others consider unflattering.  Just buy and wear what you personally like and who cares if anyone else likes the look!

They seem more of a fall/winter look when worn with boots. I am not a fan of wearing them with sandals.

I don't think we should be deciding what other people can wear. If I don't want something, it doesn't mean other people shouldn't have it, if they like it

They might have a totally different opinion, and not like something ,that you do
