I shop my closet especially in the spring/summer. I have way too many tops and bottoms and a few things I have not even worn yet. Some are over 8 years old. Hard to part with some older things cause they are made so much better.

Today, I went to a dinner for volunteers, yes at going on 90, I volunteer at the animal shelter in town. Anyway at the luncheon, I wore a nice older outfit and got more compliments on it.
Then after, I had to go to the grocery store and a couple of young ladies said to me in line, I love your outfit.
Everyone usually doesn't dress up anymore except older folks.
Now, during the week, I wear jeans, but going out to dinner or a special occassion, I dress up, but don't buy clothes anymore.
I have a huge closet and going into it this morning, it was like going into a dept. store. Even the shoes I wore, I forgot I had them.
The problem I have is, I was 5'6" when I wore these clothers, so on the pants, I have to dble or triple the waist band or they are too long.I'm now 5.4".

@smoochy wrote:I took gently worn clothes, mostly outerwear, to a locally operated shelter. Obviously worn but without tears or stains. The gentleman in charge of donations came to my car to examine the goods. He rejected all of them. He said we prefer new items. Yet here were good quality jackets etc that would've taken the chill off a Michigan autumn, new or not.
I was taken aback. Never had anything more to do with them.
What? How ridiculous! I can't believe they would be so picky. I can understand if your items were ripped, stained or in really bad condition. But they sound like you had really nice items in good shape. I think that is terrible that this man refused them. Those items could have really helped a lot of people.
It reminds me of once years ago, I had a lot of really nice tings that I no longer wanted. Some didn't fit me and some I just didn't like. I heard of a local place that you could take them to for consignment. I spent a long time laundering, pressing and hanging the items. I took them to this place and they turned their noses up and said - well - we were looking for more well known names, etc. I was so angry! I turned around and walked out. I immediately went to good will and dropped everything off. I never wasted time on trying to do consignment again!

and yes, speaking of consignment.. I have have the same experience as other posters-items refused because they werent high end designer names. And this wasn't at a high end boutique consignment shop. Just run of the mill. The thrift shop near me takes everything, without questions or judgment. That's where I take clothes and accessories. Bless those humble folks!

It is odd to me now how many charities there are and when you look at the numbers of expenses and donations they get and match it to the number of folks they serve it doesn't add up.
Helping people absolutely, but I'm thinking where are these millions and millions going? And these things rejected that we wear but isn't good enough for a homeless shelter or thrift store? Huh????

Let me amend what I said above to add I think that there needs to be more oversight on charities these days. Accounting for the money and where it goes.

I'm not swayed by many of the newest trends anymore. I wear what fits and looks current and get rid of the dowdy stuff and the stuff I hadn't worn in a year. I am not that tough on my clothing like before so they do last me a long time. I did replace jeans this year due to a weight loss of about 15 lbs and I just moved this past Jan sorted thru the many, MANY pairs of crops/capris that I had as well as shoes and sandals and purses. Don't need so many-- I don't really see much new in fashion---I buy good brands, not pricy brand names--always shop sales too.
