I think Pharrell is a nice guy, but I don't like that song at all.

Wow Chynna! These are the ones we have in common (in my "joy" list)...you must have way more joy than I! LOL!!
Love, love, love Into the Mystic and Take 5 (one of my dad's favs).
I've heard of some of the other artists/songs on your list (Sarah McLachlan, Tracey Chapman...Fast Car is on my list...my fav of hers...a few others). Otherwise, not.
Closer to Fine is a really great tune (but I disagree with its ultimate message/philosophy...I think the more you seek the Source, the closer you are to fine! They lump the Bible in with the doctors, the children, the bar, the mountains, the fountains, the gym, the Ph.D's as if they are all equally a possible "source" to find definitive answers, blah blah blah.)
Your post reminded me of S&G's The Boxer, which I'm listening to right now...thanks!
Enjoy the music!

Or just different joy. I have another list called Strange Joy that's full of songs that give me a wistful melancholy that's somehow makes me feel really good or even make me smile while they make me cry. It has songs like Walking on Broken Glass (Annie Lennox), Man of Constant Sorrow (Dan Tyminsk), Kentucky Rain (Elvis), Strangers in a Car (Marc Cohn), Digging in the Dirt (Peter Gabriel), Cry to Me (Soloman Burke), Challengers (The New Pornographers) All That You Have Is Your Soul (Tracy Chapman) and The Boxer (Simon and Garfunkle), which I'm glad you also love.

Oh, woman, I hear you about the songs that evoke melancholy or tears...In fact, as I write this, I'm listening to Tupelo Honey...bittersweet memories of a long-lost love...tearing up and blaming it on you LOL!
"You can't stop us on the road to freedom...'cuz our eyes can see..."
Have you ever heard of this one: Thao Nguyen Xanh - Sad Romance? My old (saved) links don't work anymore (one was aimini dot net...???). Anyway, youtube has the original by TNX blocked GGggrrrrrrrr, but it is one of the most melancholy music e-ver!
Some others on the "sad" list, which could better be labeled "slow dancing, possible crying involved"...
Little Anthony, Going Out of my Mind
Dusty Springfield, The Look of Love
Boyz II Men, It's so Hard to say Goodbye to Yesterday
Marc Cohn, Walking in Memphis
Mike and the Mechanics, The Living Years
Allison Kraus, When you Say Nothing at al
Sarah Vaughan, The Shadow of Your Smile
Dionne Warwick, Anyone who had a Heart
Matt Monroe, Stranger in Paradise
Bill Withers, Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone
Nat King Cole, When I Fall in Love
And on and on and on and on...we might need to start a thread "What Song Makes You Cry!"
Sorry to highjack your thread, @eddyandme
