Masterpiece Theater has been airing on PBS since the 70s.  I think it's now referred to as Masterpiece. There have been some great ones during that time.  BTW for younger viewers watching the new Poldark, this is the second version of that story.  

 

If we are limiting answers to programs which are aired as part of the Masterpiece brand, my all-time favorite is The Grand.  Others on my most favorite list in no particular order have been:

Downton Abbey

The Duchess of Duke Street

Edward the King

Lillie

The Forsyte Saga (the original from the '70s, and the more recent one)

The House of Eliott

 

Although not part of the Masterpiece family I love Call The Midwife.

Count me in with any of the murder mysteries/detective/whodunnit tales.
