Re: Nordstrom's Declining Sales

I think we will be very sorry if we lose our B&M stores.  We have already lost many bookstores due to the arrival of electronic reading devices.  I used to enjoy browsing in the bookstores but now no more.  Yes, I am definitely a contributor as I do a lot of on line shopping but I would definitely miss the ability to go into a store and see the merchandise in person not to mention the loss in jobs that we all contribute to when we shop on line.

Re: Nordstrom's Declining Sales

unfortunately, all nordstrom stores are not created equal. ours has gotten rid of most of their higher end jewelry lines, shoe lines, and handbag lines. if stuff isnt selling then they tend to completely remove it from the store. we no longer have a piano player either. theft is on the increase. it is still a nice store, but you cannot always find what you want or need anymore. i feel sorry for some of the employees also because if they are in an area that is NOT popular or not selling anymore, it is difficult for them to make their quotas.....and of course their commissions suffer.

we have a nordstrom that has the nordstrom rack right on the lower level.

i will say though that the nordstrom is so much better than the macys! our macys is cramped, unorganized, messy, and difficult to find an open register or salesperson. i rarely go in there.

This is how I feel as well.  If you buy classics and know what you are doing, you don't need a closets full of clothing.

I'm at the point where I'd rather travel and do other things to make memories than have a bunch of clothes.

Re: Nordstrom's Declining Sales

I've shopped at Norstrom since I was a baby!  My mother always had us purchase our shoes there as they were the only true fit experts back in the day!  The clothing, imho has declined the past few years.  I'm a petite buyer and the clothing is much more limited and matronly in that department.  I seldom buy clothing other that when the Anniversary Sale has EF on sale!  I purchase most of my shoes at Nordstrom and makeup but the inventories are  limited due to online sales and you often cannot pick up what you need, must be sent to you - a pain, yes free shipping, but I want it now!  Smiley Happy

I agree about the clothing Fifi.  I do love Nordstrom, but I don't buy a lot of clothing from them--mainly Free People--on occasion.  I do buy shoes and cosmetics from there.  I find the clothing quality has gone down and it's overpriced.  Plus, the selection isn't that great.

I feel badly for their associates.  I've heard the sales pressure is intense.

Re: Nordstrom's Declining Sales

The pressure is HUGE.  I don't like the new format most stores have for cosmetics.  You're lucky if a counter has THEIR people there, usually get a "beauty advisor" who works all lines, or knows where they will make a bigger sale and try to sway you from what you go to purchase!  Had this happen last weekend when my usual person was not there!  It didn't used to be that way at all.  I feel badly for the ladies in the department when they only receive a few of a new item and then they lose the sale to somewhere else, unless you wish to order and wait.  Most of the people that had helped me at my store for years are gone now.

I haven't, by choice. They crowded, and I mean crowded, one in the local Penney"s, nearest me. I looked in, just looked like glitz and glitter,  and I decided it wasn;t for me.

Re: Nordstrom's Declining Sales

I haven

t bought much from them lately and I am a level 3 ( sometimes 4 customer).  My daughters and granddaughters said the same thing.  Their selection has narrowed, and become more "ordinary".  Everything seems the same,to me.  I have the money, I need clothes, but have trouble finding anything,   Some of their house lines like Caslon and Halogen are cheap and getting cheaper.   I am an ecclectic dresser and always found interesting, unusual skirts and tops there.  Not any more.   You know when you can find a Prom  dress on Nordstrom for 58 dollars things are changing.

The stores are so competitive, and consumers are way more savvy than they were years ago due to technology.  Nordstrom does have excellent customer service, especially online.  They do their best to resolve any issue.  Their shipping and returns are a plus, and they have an excellent reward and loyalty program.

I trust them when I buy something there.  That accounts for a lot
