New a Trendy Language

[ Edited ]

I’ve been noticing for some time now, vendors and host alike have started a new way of speaking! Yes, so new it’s like a toddler. Help me understand what’s going on! Maybe you know someone like this! Ok, examples are cotton- co nn, button- bu nn, Burton- Bur nn, Mountain-Mou nn!  I’m seriously confused! Help!

Maybe they are from a foreign country and don't know that the letter t is not silent in these words. Or maybe they do not know how to spell the words.

One QVC host whose name I don't know (relatively new) says button as bu-un.  It is very annoying.  It sounds like baby talk.  Also, often has a silent 't'.

@agador

Is it only on QVC or have you noticed it elsewhere.  It could indicate the start of a hearing problem if you are missing certain letter sounds such as Ds or Ts.

I got it.  You are poking fun at Amy and her speech impediment.  Not cool.

What speech impediment? She has a squeaky voice but no impediment I have noticed. The Sketchers vendor is the one I noticed with the silent t.
