I'm late getting on the new fabrics bandwagon. So this year I have a few modal, lyocell, and tencera tops. I've been touching them up gingerly, going through a complete range up the iron's gauge for each item. It would be so much easier to just set the iron and use it. My new iron just shows syn and poly along with the traditional cotton wool and silk. So what do I use for modal, lyocell and tencera? I'm haunted by mistakes from years ago where I actually melted fabrics.

Why are you ironing them? My clothes in those fabric's are wrinkle free with no ironing.

I use an ironing cloth so as not to burn any fabric.

I recommend misting with water and then just run your hand over the fabric to eliminate wrinkles. I keep a spray bottle in my closet and never iron.

I tend to use a steamer on synthetics like that; it's gentler.
But in most cases an iron can also be used, on low heat.
Another solution is to put something between the iron and the fabric - a pillowcase works well.

Get yourself a good steamer. Worth every penny!

@depglass I iron mine and use Magic spray sizing (next to the starch) to get out those fine wrinkles.
My iron is set on the border of where "cotton" starts.

First - look at the fabric care label - usually on the side seam near the bottom of the garment.
If it says to use cool iron - if your iron is hot enough to make steam - it's too hot . And - don't use a steamer.
Poly and rayons need a lower temp. My iron has both a poly and rayon setting.

I would use my Rowenta steamer on those fabrics. Works great and is quick.

I line dry and iron almost everything. For fabrics such as modal and Tencel, I use a Rowenta iron on lower heat setting with low steam with a little starch. Works well for me. A steamer would be ok if ironing isn't your thing.
