Need Steaming Advice

I have a very expensive and very sheer silk scarf I need to wear to a wedding next weekend. There are packing creases/folds that I would like to remove. I'm thinking of using my steam iron on low setting with a towel over the scarf and lightly press. Before I do, do you think that would harm the scarf? Would it even work? BTW, I don't want to get it dry cleaned and risk damaging it. Thanks so much for your opinions ladies!
