I am a professional musician who has played for many funerals and wakes. The dress in question is a hundred percent INAPPROPRIATE.
If you're looking to create sensational talk, though, go ahead.

I was getting it just for a lbd, but also thought frankly it could be for funerals. I had to go to a wake a couple of months ago and had no solid black dresses other than a maxi. It's a heavier weight fabric and has subtle sparkle at the waist that I covered with a sweater.
This dress in person has more skin showing through, wider portion of lace than I thought from the picture. All my instincts make me think it looks "cocktail", not funeral. That people would say can you beIieve she wore that. A woman at the wake I attended wore a short red dress. Wake and funeral, I would never want to look inappropriate.
It's modest length wise, no slit in the back and about at the knees. I have to try it on with a shaper, it was much too hot today to do that. But if it's not ok for a funeral or wake I think I will return it. I just wanted to have something in my closet and not have to search when the time comes. Most lbds are sleeveless and very short. I haven't been able to find anything with short sleeves and modest length and neckline, that is also a bargain. Doesn't the lace automatically make it the s ends in y? I should have realized that....that's a definite NO for a funeral, obviously I know that. I think it's a little too body con. It's not tight, but not loose either.
Plus this has the bra issue, it would have to be strapless.
Ok I give up what is "lbd" ?????????????

lbd means a little black dress.

@Hoovermom wrote:@Greeneyedlady21: Congratulations on a great find. Personally I would not put a cardigan over it at all for a funeral. It is a very elegant dress and appropriate for any occasion. Beautifully understated.
I couldn't agree more @Hoovermom I think it's just fine as is. Unless it's chilly I wouldn't cover it up with a cardigan or anything else. What a find @Greeneyedlady21 !!!

I did a Google search "appropriate black dresses for a funeral" and these are some that came up. The long sleeve with sparkles and sheer sleeves is St. John, 1400.

In the Google search these were what I thought would be good safe picks. Short sleeve from Dillard's for warmer weather, long sleeve from Lands End for colder.

If you love that dress, keep it. Trust me, you will be sorry if you don't.
If you are self conscious about the lace and skin showing, a cover-up would solve that problem. There are plenty suitable for warm weather.

If you like it and are comfortable in it on any occasion, then wear it. If you are not comfortable in it then dont wear it. People are going to think and say whatever they want no matter what you do or dont do. Make sure you feel good about yourself, thats all the matters.

This also came up as appropriate. Eliza J Nordstrom

This is suggested for a winter funeral
