Re: Need Boot Suggestions

[ Edited ]

@Desert Lily  Did you want a high or a low boot? Well, anyway, you sound like me - it's gotta be this and it's gotta be that, etc., etc.

For lots of snow, I agree w/ Sporto. But I also have a lower Ryka all-weather, good traction and good for walking.

For a little dressier, the Clarks is great, except you need to treat them: A-544936

Clarks Collection x Jane & Coco Lace-Up Boots -Calla Dance - A544936

So many boots are stiff leather (even Ms. Mooz) or uncomfortable or the heel too high. I actually stay away from Vionic because there is always a pinch somewhere.

@Desert Lily

I'm sorry for your loss.

I've been on the east coast my whole life so I have all kinds of boots for various kinds of weather we get.

My go to, not for deep snow, has always been Earth brand, but like another poster said, the Cougar boots look great too for more coverage in bad weather.

Even with all the boots in my closet, I still rely on my Yak Trax pull on spikes.  No matter what kind of sole you have, if there's ice, you need additional traction.

@Harpa  @Chopsmom  Thanks.

The boots should probably be high enough for several inches of that white stuff. Cougar & Sporto are  in the running, and those Clarks are cute. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to figure out that I need real snow boots.

@Imaoldhippie  After reading your response, I watched one of the Q's presentations on a pair of Cougar boots. A nice extra is that the host said they're light weight.

@jackthebearI haven't yet tried A's try-on policy yet, but that's a very good idea - especially when it comes to boots & shoes.

i have used it,  well worth it for shoes and bras

My favorite winter boots are Propets that I bought last year. They are warm and waterproof and cute. I also have some Sperrys, Sportos, Khombus and Ryka duck boots. All are different heights and work well for being outside.

I have a 20-year-old pair of leather Cougar winter boots with Goretex for waterproofing. A little small on me now, but nothing has ever been better for warmth, stability and waterproofing.

And speaking of warm feet, my favorite winter slipper Baretrap Landon has a great Black Friday price at Macy's.

@Desert Lily Sorry for your sadness and your loss.

Being a New Englander my entire life, as another poster said I own many a pair of boots for different weather/occasions.   What I live in mostly are my LL Bean snow sneakers.

They are insulated, waterproof and have a very rugged bottom.  I have had a couple of falls in the past year so I wear these daily in the winter and have Bean heavy duty winter boots for big snowfalls.   I am a true 6 1/2 size but I do wear a 7 in boots to allow for heavy socks.  Fit is fine.

I agree about the Yak Trax for ice.  But, make sure to take them off before you come inside if you have wood/tile/etc. floors or you might be sitting on your rear.

@Desert Lily     Have NOT tried this brand of boot, but passing on a recommendation.  On our local radio station yesterday, they interviewed our female sports reporter who covers our Steeler football games on the field.  They were asking her how she stays warm during the games.  As she described what she does to keep warm (sits on the players heated bench at halftime!) and uses toe warmers and hand warmers.  She said her SOREL boots are the very best she's ever had.  Macy's had them on sale the other day when I breezed through the store.  Just thought I'd pass that on.

I'm a huge fan of lug sole boots, as you know ... I just got these Clarks here on the Q and they'll be my go to in snowy-icy weather.   J Crew has a lot of hiking boots that might fit your needs ...

Here are my Clarks ... also comes in black suede and burgundy patent
