I spent the evening trying on the boots in my closet. They're boots I wore on the West Coast, where it snowed once every 10 years. I moved to the East Coast this year, and they won't do. My mom fell & broke her hip when she was 73, only a few years older than me. I'm afraid I'm going to fall on the snow or ice. When I used to live where there was snow decades ago my husband was always there for clumsy me to hold onto, but he died (and I'm teary missing him tonight).

-I need a boot with excellent traction. Lug sole?

-I don't care if it isn't cute, I just don't want to fall.

-I need a boot that has less than a 2" heel (or maybe 2")

-I need a boot that has a zipper

-I need a boot that bends with my foot on the bottom -I have a pair of Koolaburra boots that don't bend when I walk

-I need a warm boot

-I need a rounded toe boot

-I need a short to medium boot

-I need a boot that isn't too heavy

-I wear a 9.5M shoe, so idk if I need to go up a half size

-I'd like leather but fabric is ok, too

I'd appreciate suggestions you have on brands, styles, sites, etc. Thank you Q style sisters.

Not sure if you'd like these, but I just got them from REI.  They're leather, waterproof and very comfortable.  Thry also come in black.  I hope our NE winter isn't too bad this year.

Also adding these two I'm considering from here at QVC.  I love boots.

Look at Sporto.  I have hiked in them, even in deep snow.

Check out the Cougar brand on here that was the TSV a few days ago.  That is the type of boot that you need.  You can always get the "fancier" ones later.

@Imaoldhippie  After reading your response, I watched one of the Q's presentations on a pair of Cougar boots. A nice extra is that the host said they're light weight.

@jackthebearI haven't yet tried A's try-on policy yet, but that's a very good idea - especially when it comes to boots & shoes.
