Re: NYDJ Jean Sizing “Gimmick”

I agree with those that find it annoying.

It must be a gimmick, why do it, why keep mentioning it?  Who believes this makes them smaller?  I know how big I am.

I just find it a little confusing, as I wonder should I really size down one?
The pants I buy are usually a 6, but a snug 6.  If I go up to an 8 they are often just a little too baggy, and look sloppy.   But a 4, I'm really afraid that those will be too small, as another poster experienced by sizing down.

Anyway, it's just a pain to deal with, for the sake of vanity sizing and it doesn't change a thing about reality.

Sizing should be as consistant as possible on a shopping channel, when you are unable to try on the item before buying.

Re: NYDJ Jean Sizing “Gimmick”

Vanity sizing is everywhere.  I appreciate that it is mentioned.  I usually will not buy a brand I never tried before unless reviews overwhelming say true to size or to either size up or  down.  I have never found sizing charts to be enough for me to  go on.  Any time I relied on a chart never got a good fit.

It is infuriating! Can't we just follow the size chart?? Is he telling me I shouldn't?? I just don't bother. The whole idea that I need special jeans is offensive

And as for the Q's free exchanges I think it's clear they don't really like to do it because the one time I availed myself of the opportunity it took a month to get the exchange! And yes my size was always in stock according to the website. (I've heard the same complaint from others)

I think it is so stupid for NYDJ Jeans to tell  customers to size down one or two sizes....just have the size chart corrected to the proper fit for size.  Just another marketing gimmick to make people feel like  they are in a smaller Jean. Who falls for that? They must think their buyer is dense.... it is a put down of sorts.

I did.  I fell for it twice.  The first time I paid full price for the jeans in the Barbara bootcut.  This was about eight years ago.  Can't remember the full price back then.  They were not flattering on me.  They were petite but still too long.  By the end of the day, I was pulling them up and they felt saggy in the back.

Years later, I did it again.and purchased the Marilyn bootcut in White for the Summer.  Same thing.  Though at I think I purchased my regular size because of the way the first pair fit.  They too, bag out by the end of the day and look sloppy.

I don't buy NYDJ anymore. I found out they are manufactured in different parts of the world and not just the U.S.A.  I'm done.  Not because of where they manufacture, but because the fit is not reliable (even for the petite sizing).  It took them a long time to get sizes for plus sized gals too.

I have enough trouble as it is trying to find pants that fit me, so why make it more difficult?  So, when they say size up or size down, and I'm not just speaking of NYDJ, do they mean from your regular B&M size, QVC sizing, or the brand's sizing chart?  And, why have a sizing chart if you're not going to make the clothes to fit it?  If they are buying clothing that is different sizing, then put the correct sizing chart for that item on the page for that item.  How is someone who doesn't watch the presentation supposed to know what size to order if their sizing chart is incorrect?  Another reason not to buy clothing online.

@Icegoddess

Exactly! Why bother with the sizing chart if we're supposed to size down? Should I be sizing down or should I be following the chart??

@IcegoddessB&M always says to size down one size on NYDJ's.  So it's not just the Q giving that direction.  The other unknown is if these jeans are made for QVC or are they from the regular stock of NYDJ's which can be found everywhere?  All of their jeans I've ever looked at on B&M ask that you size down.  I've never purchased them from the Q.  They won't get anymore of my $$ though.

So which size do I size down from??   If I order two sizes I have the hassle and expense of returning.  I do not want to have to be bothered with all of that.

@4kitties

I have 2 sizes of pants and jeans in my closet too. Just depends on the fabric, cut, and style. And whether I've gained or lost a few pounds. 🥴

@SeaMaiden

I tried NYDJ many years ago when they were a new brand. I remember the sales lady telling me to size down. Well, I tried on several pairs in different styles and sizes, and I didn't like the way any of them looked on me. I've never been tempted since. I wear mostly Levi's.

Re: NYDJ Jean Sizing “Gimmick”

Firstly, I inherited hips!  For myself, I found NYDJ to run very small when I sold them.  The sizing between styles was shocking.

I was working for Dillards, my size 6 slacks were pinned to keep them on, and had run so much my doctor was upset, but my sciatic nerve took me out.

I had a terrible time with the NYDJ brand and left them.
