Re: Misrepresentation of clothing on air

When you're buying without trying, you have to realize that for a garment to fit from XXS to 3X, it's got to have a bit of "give" in the right places or it isn't going to work.  I have changed sizes recently due to some health issues, and really can't count on any of the usual sizing to work for me.  I'm having to return garments too often and can't order again until I get better information on sizing.

I've seen giant clips on the back of garments sometimes.

I know the models are very thin and are usually swimming in the clothes, but it is deceitful to portray something that it's obviously not.

I once saw a host on HSN in what looked like the cutest DG top.  Surprised me because normally her stuff doesn't appeal to me.  I noticed that as they presented the top, the host never turned around and it looked fuller through the body on the models.  The camera panned out and caught the host from the side and there was a giant clip in the back making the top look much more fitted.

Another time the host was showing clothing and the model appeared very small and the sweater she was wearing seemed very fitted.  The host asked her to turn around to show the back and she said she couldn't.  The host commented about the models' jeans being cinched with a clip but I'll bet my last dollar it was the sweater that was clipped to make it more fitted.

That doesn't surprise me at all.

I bet that hosts and vendors have their outfits altered before a TSV too.

Re: Misrepresentation of clothing on air

I'm more annoyed when they just don't show the garment very well! For example unless it's some sort of shapewear they NEVER show you where the waist line hits on a pair of pants!

Jennifer telling me that they hit at HER natural waist does me no good whatsoever!

Have you ever had a fashion presentation on but muted? I find when I do that that I have no idea which item they're presenting! It should be obvious, shouldn't it?

Like the mannequins in department stores, look in the back and there those giant clips pulling in the garment.  Or fashion shows where the alter the clothes to fit the models.  That's what the fashion industry does, why should QVC or any retailer be different?  We aren't children, we all know that.  Who looks a picture and has faith in that....lol  Who in their right mind thinks that if we buy that top that Brenda the model was wearing....we in our size 16 will exactly like Brenda....lol   They give us garment measurements for a reason.  I don't think they expect us to use them for sizing, I think they expect that we will use the garment measures to guage the shape and dimensions in our own size so we visualize what it will look like.  They sell things in xxs to 3x, so obviously a picture is just an idea of the garment.....it's not a promise.

I expect a mannequin to have clips.  I don't expect a person modeling something to have clips pinning a garment back.

Years ago I saw it mentioned here, in the forums one of the views from the side of a garment here at QVC showed a giant clip at the waist in back.  I went and looked, sure enough, there it was!

Exactly.  But some of the attitudes expressed here is why they can get away with stuff like that.  Many accept it as the norm.

If a mannequin in a store has clips, I can see them.  Plus in a store I can try the garment on.  If I'm buying from tv or on-line, I rely on them to accurately represent an item.  Garment measurements aren't always going to tell me how something will fit me as far as waist definition, etc. or how it will drape.

If someone is wearing a top with the back clipped in to make it super fitted and the host says the model is wearing her normal size, some may size up based on the way it's fitting the model.

I always figured the models had to have clips or something because there is no way the thin models could wear anything from here without swimming in it :-)

@chrystaltree  Of course they expect us to use them for sizing......why else would they tell us the size the models are wearing??  If they have a top clipped in the back of Brenda in an XXXXS that makes the top look like the waist is cinched in, then by all means  3X is going to think the waist of that garment cinches in.  We can try on the clipped back top in a store. and see for ourselves.  We are at the mercy of the host and models doing their job in a truthful manner.

No, I'm not a child, but I can't guess what a top is going to look like on me if it is pinned and clipped on the model.  It is a false representation of a product.

As far as saying that a woman wearing a 3X thinking she is going to look like Brenda in an XXS would have to be "not in their right mind" is completely OT.

How could anyone possibly design clothing that will fit from an xxs to a 3x and have it be fitted at all? Impossible! Why a customer would expect that is a mystery to me.

Is the dress OP is talking about supposed to be one-size-fits-all?  Otherwise, I don't understand this comment.
