Re: Macy's To Close 68 Stores, Cut 10,000 Jobs

I can just say - It's not the same as it used to be.

I didn't grow up with Macy's, but they've taken over the wonderful department stores I did grow up with.

When I first went in a Macy's I was amazed at the stock they had. That was back when the malls were thriving. Now I avoid the malls if I can. I have posted many times about my experience with Macy's when DS was a toddler and I couldn't get the stroller through the kids' section. The manager who came to help me was nice, but he was also about 20! My most recent disappointment was when I went in to get a wedding gift about two years ago. I went to the ladies' room, and just about got sick. The SA who helped me with the gift was wonderful, but at the end of the transaction I mentioned she might want to call someone to attend to the ladies' room. She sighed and said she'd just been in to check it less than an hour ago. Her exact words were, "They don't care. They just trash it."

What a shame for a once classy department stores. I miss the days of the family-owned department stores! Smiley Sad

Made in America products. Quality of clothes left America long ago. Fact! Prices continue to rise. Look at SG and LoGo, Two examples of over priced clothing made for pennies on the dollar. Of course! High profile brands are priced the same. Incentives for companies produce here. Its a start, Even if effects later than sooner, Made in America matters. In my area upstate NY small downtown stores are empty, Now that effect happening in malls along with, Macy's JCP Sears. Can we afford to continue? No we can't. l remember what full fashioned garmet meant. Long wearing excellent quality. Recently ordered 2 coats from Qvc-Improperly sewn along with cheap fabric. Not expecting! Do expect finished wearable clothes. Thank you.

I hate to see it happening.  Another nice store going down the tubes.  The one closest to me is going, going, gone.  We have like no decent stores to shop in any more.  I hate it!  I love shopping and shopping on-line just doesn't get it for me!  I love all the old time stores and one by one they are all going by the wayside.  We lost our Penneys awhile back and I still lament that.  Our Sears -- I am surprised it is still open.  It is in terrible condition.  Is it going to be one day where you are forced to buy everything on-line???  I will hate that!!!!!!!  Plus, look at all the lost jobs!!!!

I think Macy's could turn this around but they are tone deaf to the issues consumers face when dealing with their company.  This reminds me of JC Penney in some ways.  I'd hate to lose Macy's as a shopping venue.

Let's see:  rude service, crummy clothes, smelly dressing rooms and stuff all over the floors.  I used to work there and they treat employees horribly.  They deserve to lose some stores.  I'm sorry for the employees, but they don't look happy anyway.  In the south, anyway.

I would completely disagree.  I love Macys, and they have some excellent fashions.

I'm sad for the employees.  Macy's is my favorite dept. store by far.   They have great sales and decent merchandise!

Re: Macy's To Close 68 Stores, Cut 10,000 Jobs

Heard this morning loosing ours here in Tyler, Texas.  Just last week on Friday while driving by the mall I saw a big sign outside the Penny's store that they now sale appliances.  That store opened in the newly built mall in 1975 and as never sold appliances.  Of course they did way back before when they were downtown for tons of years but never before.  Trying all and whatever to stay competitive.

I hate loosing Macy's since they are across the highway from the mall and just so much more convenient to get in and out of.  Plus have better prices than Dillards ect........

Prayers to the families which will loose their jobs.

Very sad news.  I grew up in New York City, and I still go to the store there.  I don't think that they will close that one.  Everyone would be so disappointed. We have a few stores close by my home, and if they plan to keep them open, they really need some renovations.

Re: Macy's To Close 68 Stores, Cut 10,000 Jobs

I had read this yesterday, and they are closing the Macy's in Downtown MPLS, it has been a department store for over a century, and a big attraction during the holiday season for the 8th floor display, something I grew up with, my daughter grew up with and was hoping for future generations to grow up with, very sad to see it leave!

I must say though, the only time we went to Macy's was during the holiday's and we only went to the 8th floor, but then I am not a "Store" shopper either!
