Re: Macy's To Close 68 Stores, Cut 10,000 Jobs

I frequent Castleton Square Mall Macys in Indianapolis, Kenwood in Cincinnati and Easton in Columbus.  All are busy, and are very nice stores.  I would assume they would stay open.

I do shop online, but I also still like seeing merchandise in the stores.  I hate that the retailers are doing poorly.  I feel sad for those losing their jobs in such a tough economy.

Our Kohls are also always busy.

The Limited, all stores--closed.

What?  I was just in that store right before the holidays.  I didn't buy anything but I didn't see any signs about the store closing either.  Geez.

I just looked at the article about this.  Stores in Ohio are going to close Jan. 7, so tomorrow. Everything is on sale right now and all sales are final.  What a shame.

I think they kept very quiet about their closings.  I learned they were going belly up when I went to their website to buy a gift card a couple weeks before Christmas.  There was no gift card link, so I phoned customer service and was told they were no longer selling gift cards--hint hint.  Then I was in my Publix grocery store and tried to buy The Limited gift cards which were hanging on the shelf end caps.  Cashier could not get them to go through her register for activation, so that was a dead giveaway.  I was able to visit the Augusta GA Limited with my daughter-in-law, and they still had some merchandise at 90% off!  DIL used up her old gift card, and I bought my teen granddaughter $200 worth of clothes for $20!!  Shelves were pretty well empty at that store by that date, Dec.29, and DIL's stores in Cleveland OH were already completely cleaned out.

We have 2 Macy's stores in my city, and one is closing. The one I frequent is not closing so I am relieved about that. I like my Macy's. It is clean, organized, and the service is fine. The women's department offer many brands and a good selection. I can always find at least one or two clothing items I like.

I guess I am in the minority because I still prefer shopping in stores in person. I make better buying decisions when I try things on rather than taking a chance ordering online. Even though the size I order may seem correct, I am very picky about the way my clothes fit, feel, and look. If I don't like something then I have to spend time and money to return it. I hate that.
