Re: Looking Back To 1988.........At Louis Dell'Olio

Funny, all the real designers are gone. Only to be replaced by cheesy, polyester imposters!

I really enjoyed this thanks. I'm a huge fan & still don't understand why QVC discontinued his line. Louis brought style & class to the Q. Something they are sorely missing!!

It wasn't bringing in enough money.  It appealed to an older demographic and too many of those women watched his shows for entertainment but never or rarely purchased anything.  And, of course, the problem excelersted as his viewer/customers continued to age because he wasn't attracting new customers.

@chrystaltree   I'm sorry, but I find that hard to believe. Louis' clothes always sold out.  It's my understanding that QVC wanted cheaper items to maximize their profits. That's why we get so much of Logo, Graver & Isaac. They slowly eliminated their higher end designers for the mass produced, cookie cuter, cheap stuff, that are overpriced & lack quality.

What a great post, loved looking back and reading about Louis's work.  I so miss him here at QVC and at the time he began here I was shocked with happiness that he was going to be designing a line for QVC.

I have a closetful of Linea, won't part with anything unless it is damaged or truly doesn't fit.  I daily bemoan his absence, but totally understand the reasons he left.

I still wear Linea all the time, am rediscovering things from years ago that work still and maybe now even better as I am wearing them in new more casual ways.  The gorgeous coats and blazers, sweaters, trousers, nothing compares.

Compliments on my Linea clothes are still coming, especially some of the unique silk blouses, embroidered pieces, fabulous designer looks, and the jackets, blazers, and trench coats.

I only purchased one item from that line and still wear it today, a gorgeous embroidered washed wool sweater.

@Carmie  I was shocked to read your post. I have many Linea pieces & they are all top quality. After years of use, everything still looks like they just came out of the package.

I also have never known Louis to be anything other than a gentleman.I've seen & enjoyed many of his shows. His passion for fashion & respect for women have always been evident to me.

I was shocked to see him act like this.  It was so out of character from what I have seen from him in the past.

He was really out of line.  At first I thought he was just kidding around being scarcastic, but he wasn't.

My heart went out to Mary and she was professional about it, but I could see she was upset and ready to cry.

His bad behavior at that one presentation was mentioned on these boards before and other posters saw it too.

I agree with your observations.  That is exactly what I saw and how I felt too....except that one time. I honestly wanted to slap him....and I am not  a violent person.

I just can't get past it and forgive him.
