Maybe you just don't see yourself back-lit by the sun.  Hold your fabric up to your eyes.  If you can see tv through it, you need a slip.

LOL @Kachina624

Not the case!  Too funny!  I have full length mirrors, lots of windows and a DH & DS that would tell me if that was the case.

I assure you, you aren't going to watch TV OR see my legs even with my maxis/midis.

If you ever tried WWC Como Jersey, you'd know for a fact it is not see through and NO slip is needed.

Same goes for print patterns.

Also, I never wear white or light colors.  My colors are typically dark.

I think what's changed is today people don't care if you see the shpae of legs through a skirt (hence the rise of short slips) whereas in ye ancient olde tymes seeing a woman has legs was quite scandalous. Remember Diana in her sheer skirt holding the kindergarten kids?

I love dresses, especially in the summer!

I remember the last time a wore a slip was when I was in Highschool in the eighties.  I was walking home and the darn slip fell off down to my ankles!Smiley LOL

That was the last time I ever wore a slip. hahaha!

Dresses are SO much cooler and comfortable than pants, crops or capris.

I love wearing dresses in the summer. I only buy cotton dresses.

Some are knee length and some midi length. At home I wear caftans.

They are much cooler than pants in hot weather. In the hot Middle Eastern deserts, even the men know how to stay cool by not wearing long pants. A jallabiyah or caftan style is the coolest mode of dress, for them.

Re: Long length dresses for summer are really appealing to me now.

I don't live in a hot climate area, but if I did, I would wear dresses every single day.

With shorts-type of panties, just in case a bee flys upwards.

Also, I used to wear maxi plaid skirts with various sweaters years ago, during the Fall/Winter.

I prefer ankle or midi lengths, mainly because I counted six escalators in my nearby area.  Stores, malls, etc.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

@Liverbird1

I was part of a college-girl's study on dresses vs pants for women.  We were to wear dresses for X amount of days (which I cannot recall as that was about 20 years ago) and pants for the same length of time.

We were to frequent the same places and see if we had more people open doors for us, pull out chairs, offer to pay for our meal, our drink or whatever if we wore pants or if we wore dresses, or the same or no difference from our usual days out in those same places.

Dresses won many times over.  Men would open doors, pull out chairs, want to pay for your drink or your meal even if they were not wanting to sit with you or flirt with you.  It was just a thing.

Not only men seemed to respect women more but young girls and young women also seemed to respect women in dresses more.

I admit I don't wear dresses as often as I would like but I have several little linen popover dresses, purchased from the AmZ store on line that are right above the knee that I can pop on to wear to the grocery store after a shower with a pair of sandals and a half-slip and sports bra.  I have nice dresses that I wear or skirts/tops for church and social meetings where dress-up is required but most of the winter time I wear pants for the reason they are warmer any time of year.

To me, a long, cozy dress in Summer would be the most UNAPPEALING garment I could possibly wear.  No way!

My grandmother wore long dresses as a young woman.  I'm not about to regress.

@Kachina624

Summer dresses are usually not cozy, but airy and lightweight.

I live in dresses, mostly midi or maxi all summer long...into the Fall and Winter with boots.

I'd wear them in the Spring too if we had one here ever!   ha ha

My sis says I am the Queen of the Maxis!

I don't own a slip, nor do I need one with any of the dresses I own.

I wouldn't buy a dress that was sheer enough to need one.

All of the dresses I own are made from materials that do not cling either.

I am right there with you.  I love long dresses in the summer.  Very comfortable and cool.  No ironing.  ALso you can wear sandals, heels, flats or even sneakers.  I love themSmiley Happy

 I wear a lot of maxi dresses in the summer.  I haven't owned a slip in probably 30 years.  I don't buy very sheer  dresses.  I wear slip shorts under all my dresses and skirts.  You get the coverage of a slip and they prevent chafing and sweating.

I wear them too because they are comfortable.
