Well, not quite literally, but I did cash in some gold jewelry today and I've set it aside for some of the Essential pieces that I've been wanting. Having seen national news reports that gold values were so high, I went through my jewelry box and found a few pieces that I hadn't worn in years - chains that were kinked, earrings missing their mate, etc.

Before seeing those news pieces, I never would have thought of doing this. None of them was an heirloom piece or of great sentimental value. They had all been neglected, almost forgotten, in my jewelry box.

I live in the Northeast and the fall/winter items coming up in Aug./Sept. are pieces I wear almost daily 6 months out of the year. My preference would be to collect them over time, but who knows how many will be brought in, and if there will ever be reorders. So, this provided me that extra I needed to be able to order some things I would have had to miss this time around.

Just mentioning it in case anyone else is longing for some upcoming pieces, trying to stick to a budget, and has some tangled 80's chains languishing in their jewelry box.
