I've noticed many threads with people complaining about pilling or other problems with clothing that they have laundered. I thought it would be interesting to share some of the laundry tips we all use to keep our favorites looking their best.

Here are a few of mine:

1. Use lots of water. Don't crowd the clothes (i.e. stuff) in the washer. Give them lots of space to swish around in the water. Pilling can result from clothing abrading against each other in the washer.

2. Make sure all zippers are zipped closed. Open zippers will also abrade or snag clothing.

3. If you get a rust stain on clothing, it can be removed with Bar Keeper's Friend scouring powder. Just make a thick paste and rub into the stain before laundering.

4. Don't dry t-shirts with rubberized transfers in the dryer. That's what makes them crack.

5. Don't dry dark colors in the dryer. That's what causes them to fade.

6. Don't use fabric softener on towels or socks. It keeps them from being absorbent.

7. Use Borax in your wash cycle to remove mildew smells from clothing.

OK, there's a start. I'm always interested in finding more ways to protect my fashion investments. What are your tricks?

Oh, almost forgot my #1 tip: Don't let your DH anywhere near your laundry! LOL
