LOGO designer distancing herself from line?

I have been a long-time Lori Goldstein LOGO fan—with piles of jeans and denim jackets to prove the point.

However, recently, it appears Lori might be distancing herself from the line. As many have noted, the LOGO designs are different. Further, she was absent and her shows cancelled for about a month, no explanation (if it's just a vacation, that's generally shared, of course).

For me, the deciding clue that there's another team designing with  less input from Lori came in her "reappearance show" Monday with Amy Stran.

A632697 Denim Jacket with french terry sleeves was shown.

A new item.

However, this wasn't its first appearance.

The jacket was shown more than a week before in a show with her niece as rep.

It didn't seem as fabulous as the many denim LOGO jackets I have, but during the show Lori was raging enthusiasm for it. Over the top.

Suddenly, Amy turns to Lori and says, "So, have you ordered it!"

NO!

OMG. (Certain someone is telling Amy not to ask that again.)

Certainly she doesn't have to order her line.

However, she was gushing about it.

For me, Lori is probably not involved in the way those of us who loved HER designs would hope.

Yes, I know she sold the line. Has a contract for appearances.

Yes, I know she bought a place in Palm Springs, California and moved her mother out there.

*** And yes, Amy announced Lori would be showing up more often on Mondays. Whatever that might indicate.

Re: LOGO designer distancing herself from line?

I think you answered most of your questions in your last few sentences of your post:

"Yes, I know she sold the line. Has a contract for appearances.

Yes, I know she bought a place in Palm Springs, California and moved her mother out there.

*** And yes, Amy announced Lori would be showing up more often on Mondays. Whatever that might indicate."

You are probably right that she's less involved now.  I'm not sure we'd know anything definitive though.

Also, all vendors have to order from their own line.  Many of them have mentioned this often, including Isaac and Dennis.  Plus, all the stories Kathy Levine has told about Joan Rivers sitting on her jewelry from her presentations, and sneaking them to Kathy, a favorite model, and even taking some to give Kathy for her mom.  Kathy laughingly says Joan didn't care that she stole so many of her pieces! Smiley Very Happy

They don't "own" the items, they belong to QVC's inventory.

Re: LOGO designer distancing herself from line?

I rarely watch the LOGO shows but when Lori was back in the stuido after her absence, I noticed a very refreshed look to her face.  I am guessing possibly she had some work done or gots lots of rest during her break.

As far as stepping back, I have no idea.

Re: LOGO designer distancing herself from line?

You are astute and razor sharp when it comes to fashion @Caaareful Shopper -- I always learn something from your comments on various threads.

True. Less involved.

But the whiney ME says, "But SHE was supposed to be the designer!"

As you noted, I have sobered up. Lori is not designing now.

Explains how my LOGO purchases suddenly decreased.

Expalins so many comments on recent LOGO products.

In a philosophical sense, wondering what a stylist-turned-designer-turned-Retired does with herself, creatively?

Smiles.

@1Professor  You are very sweet.

I still follow Lori's Instagram page.  I think you hit the nail on the head with your question.  While I don't think she's retired, I do think her focus has changed very much.

Her Logo business social media is managed by an account person, as it always has been.  But her personal page has 99% beautiful photos of the desert where she lives, and other nature photos, plus photos of her mom once in a while.  Very serene and peaceful.  Lori has also said she doesn't like flying.

David Dangle still designs the Joan Rivers line, but withdrew from on air appearances completely (besides the rare live stream session).

@1Professor  She might step away from the line like what Bobbi Brown did and create a new line of clothing.

Re: LOGO designer distancing herself from line?

@1Professor. @Caaareful Shopper  If Lori tryley intended to maintain her involvement in the line, I think the decision to relocate to Palm Springs was not well thought-out.  I'm sure QVC and the company that bought the brand (Excel?), have expectations for her active, in-person, participation in the shows.   She does, after all, have a regular, weekly show and is not a minor player who just appears occasionally.  The trip alone undoubtedly takes 2-3 days out of her week and is undoubtedly exhausting.  She couldn't possibly have a lot of time to do much else.

It's possible there is some disention between the parties involved over her appearances.

Re: LOGO designer distancing herself from line?

@Kachina624   Insightful.

I live in California and know Palm Springs. I thought it odd that she would choose it (yes, people have different tastes, BUT) because it isn't a place most folks I know think of as ideal life style. Plus so far from anything. It's a pain to travel to any fun event, shopping, show in another town.

Yes, you are right, 2-3 days.

When I do a program on the east coast, it's a pain.

As a consumer, my disappointment isn't in her on-air appearances (now realizing that she is commenting on things she didn't design), but, instead, on the fact that various other Unknowns are doing the line. Many with a distinct lack of success, it appears.

Maybe they have created a temporary Re-adjustment of her travel agreement. Maybe they threw a bucket of $$ her.

Temporary, for sure.

No one could keep showing up on Mondays in Pennsylvania from Palm Springs, CA.

Beyond the travel, though, she could have designed from California. I don't think she was doing that, though.

Lori and I have one bit of taste in common, though.

Lori did not buy the denim jacket with french terry sleeves and detachable hoodie.

     Neither did I.

Re: LOGO designer distancing herself from line?

@1Professor  I wrote about this months ago that I think she is semi retired in Palm Springs. I think someone just copies her best selling items -  boyfriend jeans (while everyone else is showing flares, bells now), denim jackets, leggings & tie dye over & over & over again.  Stuck in a rut.

When the smiley face items came out, I saw some of her creativity again & thought this seems like Lori.

Unless she gets heavily involved again, I think her line is going down the tubes. Its just repetitive anymore.   Maybe she's run out of fresh ideas?  I rarely buy anymore & don't see much that attracts me.
