I know it was decades ago but I believe I remember reading that Charles and Diana started calling him Will and even Wills right after his birth.  Their reason was it would soon be that way at some point when he started school with other children.  Like I said I vaguely remember an article on that subject.  Nothing disrespectful about a shortened name or a nic.

I believe it's more worthwhile to respect people whose lives actually cross yours, rather than ones you'll never meet, people who don't even know or care if you exist.
