It seemed Joan didn't care about causing hurt feelings. She has made some really ugly statements.

It seemed Joan didn't care about causing hurt feelings. She has made some really ugly statements.
I think Joan cared deeply about "hurt feelings", enough to try to make others think about things. Sort of like ripping a band aid off to finally see, "Hey! It's not as bad as I thought!".
But for her friend to take something Joan may have said in regard to QVC customers out of context, it is hard to grasp the meaning, especially since her friend (if you read the article with link in first comment), only made one paragraph regarding it (and it was only that short excerpt).

Let's agree to disagree. She made ugly statements ... four of which greatly offended me just between June and August of 2014.

I believe that Joan sincerely thought that her QVC customers were extremely important, and she never wanted to betray their trust by selling inferior merchandise. The design and manufacture of any item had to be perfect. Many times David has said Joan rejected items because they were not up to her standards. She was an honest person who valued her customers, both on and off stage.
