Joan Rivers skirt, wedding styling question

Hey folks, here's a question for you. I've been invited to a Memorial Day wedding. The invitation says "formal/semi-formal." It includes an evening dinner and dance at a casual/semi-formal restaurant.

I have this Joan Rivers skirt in an earlier incarnation without the bow. Mine is in black watch plaid. https://www.qvc.com/joan-rivers-red-carpet-regular-pull-on-maxi-skirt.product.A671655.html?sc=SRCH

Would this be too dark to wear to a Memorial Day wedding?

I was thinking of wearing it with black pumps and a white or black shirt because, well, that's all I have. Would this be appropriate?

Wish I had the version of the skirt with the big bow. Woman Wink

I think it would be very appropriate, its very pretty.  I would go with a white blouse to lighten it up a bit.

I would like the black top with it because it adds some sophistication for this semi-formal/formal event. Nice skirt - I think you will look great!

The black does look very pretty and dressier.

@AuntMame  It is very pretty and I would suggest a black blouse for the reason some brides do not want guess wearing white even though it is just a blouse, but either would be very nice.

Oh that's good to know! It never occurred to me that a white blouse might be frowned upon by some brides who don't care for guests wearing white.

I would prefer a black blouse anyway, but worried that might make the outfit look too dark for a spring day. But if you think that's fine, hey, I'm happy to go with that.

Thank you so much for the help!

I would not do all black - it's a wedding, not a funeral.

to me, the dark plaid looks too much like a skirt for a fall or winter event, not memorial day going into summer.

Re: Joan Rivers skirt, wedding styling question

I am going to be the lone voice of dissent here, but Black Watch is a winter fabric.  Memorial Day is hot weather.  I would not wear it.  There are going to be plenty beautiful things out there that you can wear.  Look for long dresses or skirts in a more spring/summer fabric.  Don't hate me for telling you this.  I don't want people to think you don't know how to dress.  A black skirt in a lighter fabric would be appropriate but just not Black Watch or any of the tartans, which were designed for cold weather.
