A jean jacket gives a more polished look than fleece. I have several from Macy's INC brand which I really like & get compliments when I wear them. In my wardrobe, they replace a blazer or cardigan - still comfortable & can take me more places.

Contrary to the chatter of salespeople and designers and fashionistas, there's no one garment or color EVERYONE has to own and in multiples!
That said, I found a wonderful dark blue jean jacket
with no fringes or embroidery or even orange thread. It's soft and flexible but still looks structured. I'm eager for our temperatures to drop into the low 80's so I can wear it.
I have a winter jacket in an extra closet in case I have to fly north in the winter, but anything heavier than that jean jacket or some of my hoodies or sweaters I just don't wear. Ending up in southern Florida certainly has meant I need fewer clothes.

I own two jean jackets and they are both soft and comfy. You are looking at the wrong kind if they are stiff and uncomfortable.

I have never been particularly fond of jeans let alone jeans jackets. The rebellious side of my nature is not to wear anything I see the masses in. Even men wear jeans jackets. So I have never owned one.

Have you ever tried one on in the last few decades? Because they aren't like what the Marlboro man wore back in the day. I ask because you said 'they seem so stiff and not too comfortable'.
I like to wear fleeces when it's extremely cold, but they are so casual looking and they *show* their wear and washings over time.
I'd never wear a fleece over a summer dress, but I have worn a jean jacket.
I've seen women dress up their jean jackets with big rhinestone pins or gorgeous embroidery. I wear nice gold jewelry sometimes when I have a jj on, but wouldn't with a fleece.

Wow, thank you for all the interesting replies! Many of you sound to dress so cute! I'm a senior in California, and I understand the FL and AZ posters here not needing much in the way of jackets, but I might wear a JJ early mornings or to the grocery store where it's too cold. Restaurants can be a little chilly too, but I cannot picture myself eating in a JJ. I just don't think it's "my look." When the cuffs are folded back, they stick out.
Again, love your replies everyone!

@Another new name Sue wrote:Why do people like jean jackets? I'm always tempted by them but they seem so stiff and not too comfortable. Macys has one marked down somewhat today, and I'm looking at it, but it just doesn' look like something I'd wear compared to my soft, comfy fleece jackets.
WHY???? Cuz they like them. Why are you considering it if you don't think you'd wear it? Stick with your soft, comfy fleece. Two completely different looks but that's why there are option.

Most lightweight jackets, like jean jackets, have a very short season here to wear them. The weather here goes from very-warm-t-shirt weather to heavy-jackets/coats weather...not really anything in between so I don't buy jean jackets or anything close to them in weight.

Throw back from the 1970's , just like blue jeans and blue jean skirts . I own regular business wear suit jackets , casual fleece jackets and blue jean jackets . It depends on where I am going , then I choose an appropriate jacket as needed . Many of the jean jacket now a days are made front soft stretchy fabric or linen
Wear what you like

@Another new name Sue Jean jackets have come a long way with new styles and fibers being used. Most are very soft and comfy as a sweater. Some are even a knitted poly/cotton fabric. Winter days in my area are mild usually and a jean jacket is the perfect weight to wear outside. I probably have close to two dozen in various colors, styles and weights. The Southwestern vibe is perfect in my situation. Love my jean jackets. They are so much more youthful than a cardigan sweater or some of the fleece alternatives. I also have a collection of vests.
