Re: Jane's Enthusiasm for Ireland and Its Products...

I noticed a lot of the items were on sale, I think the Irish shows might be slowly on their way OUT.

Actually, there was a fair amount of gold jewelry presented, but most of it wasn't new and as always, too much Sleeping Beauty (the mine is STILL closed, by the way) and I think Antonella and Nancy are a somewhat enjoyable pairing. What I could have done without was another hour of Shawn and another hour of beauty featuring, as always, Philosophy. Then again, I can also do without another four hours of David in the kitchen tonight. Had they wanted to schedule more of the Irish vendors in prime time there was certainly a way to do it!

stevieb, David said on his Sunday show he would not be here for the Wednesday show and Mary Beth would be doing the show.

The Irish were discriminated against upon arrival to America. Because they were dirt poor, suffered abuse and paid less then other workers. Our ancestors suffered and paved the way ...so we could live a better life.

I dislike telling you this but so were other nationalities discriminated against. I'm Italian and I heard many stories from my grandparents who came to this country and what they had to go through plus being sure they learned the English language so they could communicate unlike what goes on today.
....and some other nationalities are STILL discriminated against.....

My comment was in response to a rude poster who wanted to know: Why...If Ireland was so great...Why did they all come to America? (Post now deleted.) That is why there is comments here about the potato blight and Irish coming to America.

Of course other nationalities were (and still are!) discriminated against. I would think if you read that comment about your nationality...I am sure you would comment too. Thanks for listening. Smile

ITA! I've never bought a think during those shows, but I do enjoy watching her.

Oh, OK, now it makes more sense Smiley Wink Thanks for clarifying. I immigrated from Europe about 8 years ago...and while some countries may be "great", nothing beats California and American style of living......at least in my case Smiley Happy

It's been years since I've watched her on St. Patrick's Day (I rarely watch her at all lately) because all of a sudden it was St. Patrick's day and she spoke with an Irish accent. I have nothing against being Irish, I have many that have married into my family and they are wonderful people. But would anyone ever know that Jane is half Italian. No way! She only talks about her Irish heritage. I'm sure there are other Irish hosts on the Q, maybe even a few who are 100% Irish, so why does Jane always get to be the main attraction?

At least she knows about the products! I was just watching the St Patrick's celebration that continues on QVC Plus. Courtney just said that the Belleek springtime basket was hand woven. The rep on with her said "no this is not hand woven" but it has a basket design on it and Courtney said "Oh". {#emotions_dlg.w00t}

Courtney constantly makes errors.

I saw that, too, and thought "Good heavens, how could she even think that was hand-woven? It's a solid piece!" Certainly not well-prepared.

I had to stop watching after she asked one vendor when spring started in Ireland. He said March and she said why do I feel like it starts at a different time than here? She then asked if the sweater he was presenting could be worn as a sweater. She asked the Belleek rep if her shoes were inspired by Belleek and she said no. Courtney then said "maybe next year you can come back and sell them and say they were".

LOL. Courtney was out of her element last night. Speaking to the Belleek rep, and commenting on the floral design of the baskets, she said "you know, Spring is just starting here in the U.S." Maybe she thinks Ireland is in the Southern Hemisphere.

Yes, Courtney certainly was in over her head on St. Patrick's Day. She showed us how "green" she really is, if you'll excuse the pun.

She does mention at the beginning of Shoe Shopping with Jane that her grandfather was an Italian shoemaker. Smile I think she's really become the "face" of the Irish programming due to her enthusiasm, knowledge of the products, family background (married and her own), and the relationships she has formed with some of the Irish vendors by working with them for many years. (She's also a senior-level host.) Yes, she sometimes slips into a bit of an Irish accent, but it's done in fun when she's talking with one of the "guests" -- she doesn't try to imply that she actually has an accent. In the end, she's just a very good fit for the programs and has earned her featured status over the years.

Re: Jane's Enthusiasm for Ireland and Its Products...

She does an adequate job and seems to enjoy presenting the products. The sweaters didn't flatter her so I give her a lot of credit for her enthusiasm.
