It's NOT pronounced SEQUENCE!!

Just a quick little rant here about the pronunciation of the word, "SEQUIN" when describing an item of clothing.

So many people say, "SEQUENCE."  It is SEQUIN.  Hosts need to  know this.

Not the end of the world, I admit.  Just an observation.  But this and "fabrication" when describing clothing is irritating, too.  Fabric, not fabrication, unless you're describing how something was made or built.

:-)))  Enjoy the day!

Re: It's NOT pronounced SEQUENCE!!

My dad had PhDs in English and History.

As my dad always said.... it's not nice to criticize someone else's speech or pronunciation. They may not have had the same education or opportunities, and there are regional differences just like accents.

That said, I agree that some pronunciations can grate. But it is what it is and you/I can't do anything about it. It's not worth taking up space in the brain.

It's all over the place.    NOT on the Q....but somewhere else, I hear the host saying that tanzanite comes from "Tanzan-EEE-ZHEE-YA"...

@BarbiHollywood   If there is more than one sequin on the garment, how do you pronounce the plural of that word?

@BarbiHollywood    @Carmie

They probably think it's "sequins-es".

The plural of sequin is sequins. Maybe that's what you're hearing?

see·kwnz     And it would seem that's the word we're actually talking about since it is highly unlikely that a garment would have just one sequin.

If you don't correct, then they'll never know.

But...I believe they do use the term, fabrication correctly. (You know, the English language with double & triple meanings.)

The one thing that really grates my nerves is:

She Cog Uh, Ella Noise

(And one co-worker even asked me what COUNTRY that was in.)

From Merriam Webster's examples of "fabrication" used in a sentence:

The theme comes together through sporty stripes, reimagined shirting, peplum silhouettes, capri pants and denim tunics in fluid and soft fabrications.

Plus, the silhouette comes in various washes, fabrications, and treatments, including rigid 100% cotton and some with stretch.
