I wasn't teaching, but back int he day, before Spell Check, I used to proof read papers. Not only that, but I won my grade school's spelling bee in 4th grade.

Words spelled incorrectly practically jump off the page. It is what it is.

I'm not sure correct spelling is more important than someone's feelings. I just don't see the point in it. It is good that some people know, but very unimportant that some don't know.

Not everyone has the opportunity for a lot of education, or even the need to use it to get by in life. Which, after all, is more important to our well being than any of this. If you had that opportunity, be thankful and be kind to those who didn't.

Agree, which is why it's fun to find the errors of those who want to criticize others for similar errors - and who insist it's only because of their superior education etc. that they do it.

@Nonametoday Not everyone has the opportunity for a good education. Any grade. Especially in rural schools in very small towns where the teachers think oh nobody here will go to college anyway.

So they are ignored and looked down on the rest of their lives no matter what kind of human they are.

The school I attended was in a town of 2500 until I went to high school which was 100 miles away, 35,000. I was in 9th grade then. I learned all the rules of grammar from 1st to 6th. No teacher ever feels that a child should not have a chance at a college education. That is far from an educator's mind. My son's first residency at the end of his undergraduate school was in a small town in Kentucky where the elementary children thought London, Kentucky, was where Queen Elizabeth lived. They learned. He taught. They loved him and some still write to him. Several have gone on to college.
