Isn't Cashmere Supposed to be Soft?

My husband loves cahsmere so he bought me a cashmere sweater for Christmas he said from Macys but I was surprised it wasn't that soft? He of course loved it but I have never even looked at cashmere before so if it isn't that soft why do people love it? Besides I don't even find it warm!
