Bob Mackie Wearable Art - Fashion

Mary Beth Roe

@ALRATIBA.  They had a show maybe last Thursday night at this time.  Every item, even newer stuff, was on clearance.  I bought 3 things.

Love Bob Mackie; Have several of his spring and summer jackets

and sweaters and also jackets and sweaters for Winter.

I just checked -- he is 80 (born in 1940).  Nice man, but perhaps ready to retire.

He sure looks good for 80...although I realize that's not the point. I won't be surprised if Q/Bob retires the line soon.

On the other hand, dear sweet Stan Herman, still popular, and full of energy and excitement on air, in his 90's, I believe, will probably work as long as he physically can. God Bless him.

He uses the same vendor as Louis Dell'Olio and she is retiring her business in 2021.  QVC put a lot of restrictions on these designers............cut in budget, costs and inventory. Quality is not something QVC aspires to at this point.

I used to love his clothes when they were made of silk, cotton and real leather or suede. I still have a couple of his silk blouses and those silk pants he used to sell. He cheapened his line years ago and everything now is polyester. His newer designs aren't very attractive either. It wouldn't surprise me if the Q is phasing him out, along with Louis and Quacker Factory.

Bob Mackie did not cheapen his line,  this was a decision by QVC.   QVC calls the price points for the clothing that QVC sells.   Bob Mackie is a QVC vendor, his company must follow the contract that was signed with QVC.

I hope not, his pants fit me really well and he usually has petites.  Not everything is my style but I think his items are very pretty.  I would think the whole pandemic has made it harder to get items manufactured.  His price points to me have always been good.  Good quality too.

I hope not.  He's entitled to retire, of course.  But Iris Apfel, at 99, is still working.

I watched the show last week.  It was a clearance show, which explains why everything was on clearance. He was on, his usual self, I enjoyed watching.  Bought some items earlier in the season, so nothing this time.  And he will be on again soon.  I don't know that he has always had a ton of items in stock, he has his own style.  He is fesh off major awards on 2019.  There is nothing that says retirement about Bob Mackie.  Not sure we need the speculation.

@Dar321 with quality being a thing of the past with QVC's clothing, I expect his line to disappear. Louis announced he had been given the boot but I don't think Bob would make such an announcement.

Mr. Mackie is a true gentleman who produces beautiful high quality clothing.  It's logical to me that QVC would get rid of him so they can sell more D&Co and Susan Graver.

I really hope he's not leaving.  I'd hate to be left with Isaac.
