Re: Internet "Debate" About MOB Gown

[ Edited ]

I don't love the color or the floral print on the MOB dress. It definitely is an attention getting dress IMO. I think her little bouquet and the train make it look more like a bridesmaid dress. Since the bride was ok with it, it doesn't really matter what I think.

Regarding cleavage in a Catholic Church....

I am Catholic, and I sing in the choir and at church weddings. I've been the soloist or a guest at other Catholic churches too. I think some churches in Europe still have dress codes, but here in the U.S. I don't think many churches have dress codes anymore.

I've seen lots of cleavage, mini skirts, and spaghetti straps on women in church. At one wedding I sang at, the bride kept pulling up her strapless dress. On men I've seen cargo shorts and old tees.

Personally, I dress up more for church, and I never show cleavage. I'm just more comfortable and feel more appropriate dressing up and being modest at church.

If the bride is OK with the choice, that's all that matters.  Personally, I think the dress is horrid but that's just me and my non-love of floral prints.  I'm not into the train on the dress either.

  The bride's dress is beautiful!

Both are beautiful.........sounds like an episode from Say Yes to the Dress.......but I don't like the bouquet the mother is carrying - just a small elegent clutch would have been nice.

Maybe it's just me but it screams Mom wants the attention on her! It's the bride's day but mom is going for the wow factor for herself.  That's the message here.

Re: Internet "Debate" About MOB Gown

I think it's wonderful that the bride and her mother feel beautiful in their dresses, and the bride was happy with her mother's choice.

That being said, I think the mother definitely wanted the spotlight on herself.  The bold print, the train in the back of the dress, the low cleavage -- all say, "I'm the hot mom, look at me!"

My guess is, the mom has been dressing this way for years.  For all we know, this is the more demure gown that she picked out, and the bride was relieved that they settled on this one.

Dress is beautiful from the front, not so much from the back IMO.  Both women are beautiful though.  And, if the daughter is happy, who is anybody to say the mother shouldn't buy/wear the dress?  When it's their wedding, then they can have a say.

@Icegoddess When it is on the internet we all have a say--or at least can voice a say.  I'm sure the daughter is happy because it is a  if mama ain't happy ain't NOBODY happy family. I'll put a big bet on that.

At least she didn't choose this outfit to wear to the wedding. Smiley Very Happy

Clearly mama wanted to upstage her daughter. Cleavage, bouquet, she must have no self awareness to show up in a Catholic Church dressed like that.🙄

And nobody knows what the bride really thought or was "allowed" to think.  Sorry but I've seen this situation more than once.
