I have the Sept., 2017 issue of In Style magazine.
The cover is quite puzzling. This issue is an important one, the large fall one.
The model on the cover (Carolyn Murphy) is photographed on sort of a beach with rocks and sand. The water and grey sky are in the background. Her hair is messy, she's kind of squinting, and is wearing a checked coat way too big for her. As if she was wearing her father's coat! The sleeves cover her hands. Not sure if she is wearing shoes/boots because my label covers that part.
I don't get it. I know they want to go for "edgy" sometimes, but this looks like a poor homeless woman wandering. Nothing attractive about it.
What am I missing?

Magazines are becoming irrelevant. This is an artistic portrayal of their death spiral.

When I do a search, I see a cover with Selena Gomez. I wonder if a different cover was used on subscribers vs direct sales. I'm actually surprised that an actual model would be used vs a celebrity.
I did a little more searching - is this your cover?
I also found another photo from the same shoot - this looks more like an editorial fashion spread vs a cover.

This? It's part of what some call "alternative wear".

i think it is a gorgeous and artistic photo.

as Nina Garcia would say. Very Editorial.
nice that they are using a Model instead of a celeb, and an over 40 model at that. Carolyn has small eyes which may make her look like she is squinting.

The cover I saw on the rack in the checkout line was Selena Gomez. I was actually surprised when I realized it was her! She looks pretty amazing
I used to love InStyle magazine years ago I even had a subscription at one point but then they put Britney Spears on the cover and that really turned me off

Wow, that's just terrible. I can't believe they picked THAT for a cover!

@ECBG Alternative wear? Alternative to what? I, too, do not get the point. I agree, street person is right.
