Re: I went clothes shopping today and the experience made me realize...

Two weeks ago I took my sister-in-law to Lane Bryant. They were having a 80% off sale. I couldn't believe when they rang up her items, a dress and jacket, $34.00{#emotions_dlg.thumbup}. I couldn't believe how much their clothes were, $50.00 for a summer t-shirt.

I think if you can, it is better to try on your clothes. Anymore, so many stores have sales and good coupons.

Online shopping is good for those who can't get out or who live miles away from shopping centers. For me, I want to see it, touch it, and judge the quality before I buy. There are exceptions, sometimes I get attached to something I see on the shopping channels, something I wouldn't find in B&M, I buy those.

Couldn't agree more. I don't understand how people can just order from QVC or any shopping channel without actually comparison shopping even if it's only on other websites. QF used to be unique--those button covers were gorgeous--but now I rarely see on TV anything that I can't find of at least equal quality and cheaper in b&m stores.

I live in a very rural town about 60 miles from a medium size town with Dillards, Kohls etc. I was recently in San Antonio and spent the good part of a day just browsing in all levels of stores from NM to DSW. I really enjoyed my shopping.

I think you are right. I would not make many of my Q purchases if I had other options. I am finding that Q is one of the more expensive online options because of not only shipping but no real specials. Williams Sonoma has a weekend special of 20% any item (and other specials) and free shipping and the list goes on. I just bought 3 tops from ATaylor @50% off and free shipping.

With all the talk about LR departure, it got me thinking about the psychology of Q shoppers. I think there are several types of Q shoppers: Need convenience of shopping at home, access to products not readily available locally, long time shoppers who are brand loyal to name a few. But I think there is another type of shopper that are entertained by the Q to the level of a reality show. That's not a bad thing, but when the Q talk is concerned with which host will go to Italy, or someone's boyfriend, or cosmetic surgery, then this Q culture takes over common sense in purchasing decisions.

I agree with what you said about shopping at QVC and their various shoppers. For those who can't leave their homes (the most vulnerable to the indecent sales spiels), QVC is just another reality tv show. They have little else to do than get caught up in the hosts' lives, which is encouraged, of course. Btw, I love San Antonio. River Walk, Alamo. Gorgeous.

I think we forget that many of those watching the Q do not have a computer or are uncomfortable trusting online sites. There are still those who pay by check rather than putting it on a credit card or using a debit card.

Re: I went clothes shopping today and the experience made me realize...

I HATE shopping. And being a petite, it is hard to find things that fit well. I mostly buy from Talbots and just got some summer crops $20 off per pair, and I had discounts I used as well! Clothing is expensive no matter what you buy, so I want something that fits, looks good, and will last a few years.

Re: I went clothes shopping today and the experience made me realize...

I just hope that B & M stores will continue to be available to us. With more and more shopping being done online, the stores may not be able to justify their rents and expenses.

I'm amazed at how much difference in-person shopping makes. I often find something online, and then go to the store (Macy's, Talbots, Loft, etc.) to buy it. Half the time I end up not wanting it after all, due to size/color/fit issues. And I often take home something entirely different!

It's hard to make the online shopping experience foolproof.

Re: I went clothes shopping today and the experience made me realize...

Budget is tight, but I wanted something for Easter, so went to Kohls with my 9 year old granddaughter. Found a cute top to go under a 3/4 sleeve sweater I already own, and found a cute skirt and top for her. With coupons, it came to $26. Not bad!

Re: I went clothes shopping today and the experience made me realize...

I had surgery in February and am still not allowed to drive, until I get clearance from my doctor (it's considered reckless driving if you violate orders and get involved in a moving violation incident, not to mention that I could undo the operation). While it was snowing outside and QVC had the big spring fashion day event to inspire me, I had nothing better to do than snoop around on the website and I found incredible "last clicks" and "clearance" deals (tops under $10), some LTS deals, and yes, some regular priced items - but I managed to spruce up my spring/summer wardrobe on the cheap and I am pleased with everything I have received. When back to driving, I'll enjoy wearing my new stuff to greet the flowers and warm weather!

Oh I've been going crazy lately with Carson's Goodwill Sale. Especially on Wednesdays...Get an item on sale then take an additional 25% off that then take an additional 10% off that. Grand total is pennies on the dollar. I've refreshed my entire Spring/Summer wardrobe the past few days! I NEVER buy any of my clothes unless I can feel, touch and try it on.
