I miss GILI under Lisa Robertson

I absolutely hate what they have done to GILI under Jill Martin. The line has lost that expensive chi chi look from New York amd Beverly Hills. It was so popular. Under Lisa Robertson it was an utter phenomonon with every GILI item selling out. In one year of GILI sales went up a 1000 percent. Got it Love It was the brilliant brainchild of LR. Sad what it has become.

How much GILI did you buy when it was under Lisa's tutelage?  How was the quality.  I remember the reviews were very hit or miss.

Never bought a single GILI item.  Too many quality issues on some of the reviews.  No thanks.

Re: I miss GILI under Lisa Robertson

I was never a GILI fan but I tried two items and returned them due to fit problems and quality.  To be honest, as a New Yorker, I do the majority of my shopping at the very fine stores we are forutnate enough to have but periodically I will find a susan graver, Dennis Basso or Isaac piece that I like to pair with something else that I have at home.  I also love Vionic sandals, have a few of their shoes and booties.  I can certainly appreciate the frustration expressed by the original GILI fans.  LR brought upscale trendy fashions to the viewers whereas Jill Martin has her own Hamptons viibe which doesn't work for everyone (including me).   Jill is the complete opposite of LR and I'm really surprised that Q went with it knowing how well the line did under LR.

Re: I miss GILI under Lisa Robertson

I preferred Lisa to Jill as a spokesperson and preferred the line as it developed under Lisa over what I have seen under Jill, assuming that either really held the 'last word' on what was produced under the line. That said, while I did see more things I liked previously than I do now, and think, perhaps, the quality might have been higher, I never thought it was an absolutely stellar line and still don't. Either way, our choice at this point is to take it or leave it.

GILI under Lisa's input had a very small target customer base.  The jackets and tops were designed to be skin tight, the way Lisa likes to wear her own clothes.  I remember some of those leather jackets that hiked up above the waist in the back yet came down below the waist to points in the front.  An extremely odd design that didn't look good on anyone.  I did love the Roma 2 handbag, but some others had very inferior cardboard-like leather material.

She could sell it all, I give her that.  Lisa was a very successful salesperson.  But GILI was mostly a hot mess, IMO, in her days.

At least Jill's influence has attempted to be more inclusive and have a little fun in the designs.  Now that all that old GILI  inventory and designs should be largely gone from the warehouse, hopefully we'll see better & better coming from the line in the year to come.  Retail doesn't turn on a dime, it takes time.

I know you always exaggerate your posts about Lisa, and I usually just read them to pass the time (afternoon chuckle, as it were).  But thought I'd add my two cents today.  Back to fantasyland @JONNYSBRO.

At least Jill isn't a robot and can can complete a sentence without saying amazing, stunning, um, beautiful, beautiful, amazing, amazing. All while fidgeting with her fake hair and admiring herself in the monitor.
