I have a question about levis

My husband has bought several pair at Macy's. After they are washed a couple times  they get small holes behind the knees. Like they are disintegrating.

A store clerk actually to us he was told by levis not to wash them, but to wipe them down with a damp  cloth and pop them in the freezer.

Have you ever heard of this. My husband has worn levis for decades, and always washed and dried them, and this has never happened before.

I have worn Levis' for over fifty years and never had this happen. I would say that Macys' got some that were seconds. I would contact the Levi Straus company personally and see what they tell you. That not washing jeans is a new thing they have came up with about putting them in the freezer. Levis' have always been know for their long wearing and being able to wash and dry them for years. I had one pair that I wore for over thirty years. Not kidding! I wore them as jeans and then finally cut them off into shorts. It was crazy but I loved that pair.

The last time we bought the 501's they were terribly wrinkled after we washed them.  They have been going down in quality for many years, since they don't make them here anymore.

thats what my husband wears. I emailed the Levi company. I don't expect it to do much good, but my husbandloves these jeans, and we can't afford to have them fall apart after they are washed twice

They're nuts at Macy's if they expect a man who wears his Levis to do some grubby job everyday to never wash his jeans.  Downright unsanitary.  I can't believe you took this ridiculous excuse and didn't demand to speak to a manager.  This no-wash business may be okay for teen princesses but it's not going to fly with serious workers.

Yes...I have heard of the freezer method.  I wash 'em and love 'em.  When I first put my fresh washed levis on...they are snug and my body eases into them within a few minutes.  One of my favorite jeans!  Classic!

We aren't the type to make a scene over a couple of pr of jeans. We will just take our business elsewhere

Re: I have a question about levis

My hubby buys Levi's jeans at Kohl's and has never had a problem with holes occuring behind the knees. It sounds like the pairs you bought are defective.

My husband gets about 1 year of good wear out of them and then after all the washings the denim starts to look like it is thinning and fading. At that point we donate them to our favorite thrift store and buys new ones.

If you need to buy replacements, hubby said he is making a pilgrimage to Kohl's this Saturday as Levi's are on sale.

I have a few pairs of Levi's from the 80s and 90s that were made in the USA. The denim has some substance. Although I can't fit into them anymore I just can't part with them either.

It sounds to me it may be the OP's washer that could be the problem, not the jeans.

We have a new front loading washer and nothing else ever gets holes in them
