"Over 70 million U.S. women fall into the special size category, that 50 % of the population is actually under 5'4", and 65 million women are considered plus size.Jan 6, 2016

Most stores I have been in, petites are a small part of the store, unless it's a petite store.

Retailers who snobishly  refuse to stock extended and even accessible sizing are losing big bucks at a time they may be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy.

I find it easier to believe how many fall into the plus size category

I'm 5'4", and have never felt that half of all women are my height or shorter.  I have always felt like I'm the shortest woman in the room!

@Kachina624    I have to agree... At 5' 2" I find my size is limited at most stores.  They may have a petites department, but not much selection.  I have not seen Accessible sizing.

Off subject... I figured you could answer this.  I get emails from the Q frequently that say " They Beauty you browsed is Goals"..     ?   What does that mean ?  Is that a new catch phrase?

I am 5' something" and I don't feel short.  But the clothing on the stores doesn't fit for the most part.  I need petites.  No store I know sells them.

@Kachina624 you are correct that they are losing big bucks......I have one store where I routinely purchase clothing.......and it's on the casual side.......sizes 0x thru 6x.  The quality is good, they have frequent sales.  I've purchased bewteen $300-$400 in clothing so far this year.........redoing my closet and updating my clothing.

I have read something very similar.  The fashion industry has made incredible strides in the plus size arena but they continue to ignore the petite customer.  It's why I shop with HSN and QVC.  I'm 5'3" and there is very little in b&m stores for me.  I refuse to pay for alterations now.

At 5 feet even most petites are too long for me. I have to be very careful when ordering pants

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

Retailers must be colluding with tailors, because I have an awful lot of hemming to do and it's not cheap.

Talbots has a great petite department either in their stores, online and catalog.

Lots of choices.
