I grew up in the days when we wore slips with lace edging and occasionally - your "slip would be showing."  Even camisoles (worn under sheer tops) and pants liners had lace edging.  (I still have and wear those slips and camisoles and pants liners.)

To this day, I cannot look at anything with a lace hemlne without thinking to myself ..... "her slip is showing."

And - there's no way I could ever bring myself to wear dresses (or pants) with lace edging.

Just got a pair of ivory pants at Dillard's, Loro Piana fabric for just over $100 at their big sale.  Check out what that much would cost you at Nordstrom or Neiman.  Some run up to 4 figures.  I hope I don't die before next winter so I can get use of all the things I have purchased.
