Other than Ebay has anyone had any experiences selling genuine fur coats?

I took a very dated mink coat to see about restyling it into a vest and was offered about 12% off a new fur. I think they would take that amount off without my "trade in"? What is the ususal retail mark up on furs?

Re: How to sell used fur coats?

I had a couple of fur coats that belonged to my grandmother maybe from the 20's or 30's I guess. A mink stole and another stole with animal heads (yuck). I stored them for years and got sick of paying the storage fee. I have no place to wear them because it never gets that cold in Arizona and I would feel really weird wearing them anyway. And except for a very few places where would I wear them? I just dont  play in that sandbox. Rarely wear a coat let alone a mink stole. I tried to sell them, no luck. No one wants them. I finally gave them away to a charity and took a tax deduction. The store where they were kept in storage kept wanting me to spend all this money to recondition them. I saw no point in it. They also tried  to get me to refurbish it into a vest. Again, where would I wear it? I don't even own a dress or high heels. I guess I could wear it with my jeans, tee shirt and hiking boots on my way to Target.

I have two furs and I don't think I could sell them to anyone.  I plan to donate them to a charity, i.e. Goodwill or Salvation Army.

A vest? I'd rather have the stole.

I is hard to sell them in this country.  I have heard that there are charities that send them to colder climates, like Russia, Armenis, some of the slavic countires where they make hats from stoles, and wear the coats, or cut them for trim on wool coats, or muffs.  But what man here in States wears one of those big mink Russian  hats?  LOL!

I donated all my inherited furs to a wildlife rehabilitation organization. They use the fur for orphaned and injured animals to prevent them from imprinting on humans so they can be returned to the wild.

WOW-What a cool idea! I have a muskrat cape that I keep thinking about turning into a vest but I like your idea better. I'm going to check into that.

ugh i have seen those little mink neckwraps with the animal head!  what a despicable style.

my mother has a full-length  beaver coat she purchased 35 years ago as a 50th birthday gift to herself.  not long ago, she took it to a consignment shop and they were like, are you serious (this was in a very PC area in NY)

she is hanging onto it like all her other 80s coats she never wears. i suggested she donate it to wildlife rehab or animal rescue but she still insists she can sell it.

Re: How to sell used fur coats?

When my aunt died 8 years ago, I was responsible for getting rid of all her posessions.  She had closets full of clothes and 7 or 8 fur coats.  I asked

the auction house, that was taking most of the things from the house, how

to get rid of them.  They said to wait until fall and they could sell them at

the auction, which they did.  I can't remember exactly how much we got

after the auction house took's it's percentage, but it was at least $500.
