Oh a great thread.  I watched Shark Tank recently where Lori Greiner and Mark Cuban made a deal with a young man pitching his product call DetraPel.  It is a water and stain repellent used on everything from shoes to carpets. The young guy who developed it was quite impressive.  I think this might do the trick for white sneakers!!  I have not used but am going to purchase some.  Google the product name and see what you think.

Better (for me) than Scotchguard, is Kiwi waterproofing.  Found at the end of a shoe isle and Walmart.  Used this on tents and on the canvas canopy over the back door, for water proofing.  Great stuff.  I spray all my winter boots and shoes, Leather, Canvas, Suede.  Spray in a green can.  Love it.   Re-Apply after each wash.
