For me, it's 10 pounds.

Re: How many pounds must you lose/gain to change clothing sizes?

@Trudeywrote:

There are more inches between larger sizes than smaller sizes.  When I was size 16/18W, it took more pounds to drop a size than it does now.  Once I got to size 10, it would only take 10 pounds to drop a size.  It took 30 pounds for me to go from a 16W to a 14.

@Trudey

This makes so much sense!  Why hadn't I thought of it?!  Thank you for posting.

I agree with posters who say it really does depend on your body shape and size. I gained about 25 pounds when I hit menopause in my late 40s and was wearing size 10-12 on the bottom and M on top. Due to a long illness, I have now lost those 25 pounds. I am now wearing size 6-8 on the bottom and S on top. My face looks less full and round too.

For me it is about a 10 pound loss to go down a numeric size in jeans.  Funny thing is that is seems to take a 15 (or more) pound loss in the yoga pants.  I do not like my active wear to be skin tight though!  Then again, they are usually sized in S, M, L, XL.

I have gone down two dress sizes just from working out--have not lost an ounce.  Much depends on diet, level of activity, metabolism, and genetics.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!

Same here.  Short and smaller but add 10 and I am squeezing in my pants.  Older I get harder it gets to take it off.  I have too many nice clothes in my closet so I have to keep at it because  I am not starting over.
