...change from regular to petite? I recently lost 40lbs. and my shape is much slimmer and I've gone from 5'4" to 5'3"

"Petites" are about a half-size smaller all over, and 2 to 3 inches shorter

@GoneButNotForgotten. Best to compare the two with the garment measurements to determine what the differences will be. Especially watch the rise measurements on pants.

I am 4'10" and can't wear a petite because I have broad shoulders...my wing-span is 6 inches wider than my hips.
Best to try a garment on before you purchase....

@Desertdi I have broad shoulders like you so can't wear a petite in tops, but I do have the shorter neck to waist measurment, so fitted tops just won't fit right. I also have the shorter rise, so need a petite in pants, but a real petite, not what QVC calls a petite which is actually a short. I'm 5'1 1/2".

@Icegoddess Same pants challenge with me! I have worn "A-line" styles all my life. di

@GoneButNotForgotten first take your meansurements. If you can have someone measure across your back shoulder to shoulder that would help. But at least get your bust, waist and hips accurately. Then check your inseam to see if there is much change. You might really just be a smaller regular than a petite. Then be sure to check the actual garment measurements on everything. That's the best way to see what petite size will fit you. One inch in height isn't that much and 5'3" is on the "cusp" of petite so you might just need a smaller size in a regular length.

haddon9, thank you, but I can't take much credit. My doctor put me on thyroid medication about 6 months ago; the loss was so gradual I didn't notice it till I weighed myself one day and I'd lost 10 lbs; boy, was I surprised!
I've held off on buying new clothes; I'm afraid I'll jinx myself if I do. The rest of my clothes are so loose that I'm sometimes afaid they'll fall off. But I still have female hips and that helps my clothes stay on, a little.

Measure your back pit to pit. You will need someone to do that as you stand very erect.
